It’s been a bumpy ride for Reba fans. The Reba McEntire series was The WB’s highest-rated sitcom for virtually all of its five seasons. You would think that high ratings would ensure that the show would continue on the CW. Not so.
The sitcom had received a two-year commitment from The WB network at the end of its fourth season so, last spring, fans believed their show was safe for an upcoming season six. In fact, when the UPN/WB merger was announced earlier this year, it was said that CBS’ leader Les Moonves sent word that the new CW network would honor the rest of the two-year commitment. The Reba cast and crew wrapped their shooting according to schedule on March 14, 2006.
A few weeks later, CW executives reportedly told 20th Century Fox TV (who produces the show) that they wanted to cancel the deal because the show didn’t attract the new CW’s “desired demographic.” As a result, the Reba fifth season finale, which was originally shot as a cliffhanger (Van and Cheyenne possibly breaking up), was re-edited to include a sentimental montage of images from the show’s run.
CW is said to have changed their mind about the cancellation when they realized they’d have to pay an eight-figure “kill fee” to 20th Century Fox TV. CW instead gave Reba a 13 episode renewal order but didn’t put the sitcom on the Fall 2006 schedule. Would they air?
Well, the wait is finally over. The sixth season of Reba will debut at 7pm on Sunday, November 19th with two new episodes. The following week, a Reba rerun will air at 7pm and a new episode will follow at 7:30pm.
Great news but keep in mind that the CW only committed to purchasing 13 episodes. If the ratings are good enough, it’s said that an order for nine additional episodes will be given — bringing the order to a full season of 22. The additional episodes would start airing by February 2007.
Production on the 13 episodes will be completed in early December so presumably the decision would have to be made soon if the 13th episode was to include any kind of closure for the series. Will that happen in time? Hard to say but, based on the sitcom’s rocky road last Spring, I’m guessing the Reba producers may have a few contingency plans up their sleeves. We’ll keep you posted so, stay tuned!

Boycot CW!!!!!!
I have now gotten all the seasons out on DVD and was looking forward to more. This show is so much like life today. My sons and I watch Reba all the time, so much that my 6 year old can sing the theme song. It also helps that he has grown up listening to Reba as she has always been my favorite. Please reconsider keeping this show on the air. Also it really needs to be on during the week as most of us go to church on Sunday night which might explain the rating going down. Family sitcoms… Read more »
To take Reba off the air would be a crime. It’s the one show that the whole family watches and laughs together. What would you relace it with, another JUNK show. Please!
Hopefully another network would pick it up.
I am a grandmother of 48 with a 10 year old granddaughter. We watch Reba together every night in reruns and the regular time slot. WE love watching it and laughing together. The whole cast is great but Reb’s smile and laugh are what we like best. This is a clean family show that bridges the generation gap.
I never miss an episode of REBA. I have been watching since the beginning. The writing is smart and it is sooooo funny and entertaining. The cast is great and I look forward to watching it everyday. In this day and age it is so great to have a show like this on the air. Please don’t take it away.
Please keep the Reba show on. There are not enough family shows out there plus this one actually deals with real family life issues and morals. My sons and I love watching this show. It has dealt with drinking, divorce, and pregnancy. topics that kids can actually learn from. I hope they will come to their senses soon and keep it on.
Please don’t cancel the show!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was hesitant to watch the show, but now Im hooked!! I think Reba has taken herself into yet another realm of stardom.I think she has a great sense of humor and her acting skills top notch!! I also think the cast is great, but I need to say this the redhead daughter, her attitude, rudeness and now the weigh loss,I dont want her to be someone my children see and think that its o.k. or cool to talk like that or act like that. Its hard enough today without them taken bad examples from TV characters. (cut the character) other wise thumbs… Read more »
I have been watching Reba for a while, both on Lifetime and The new CW. I just love it, it is so clean and funny. I have got my granddaughter and daughter in-law interested in it. And they tell me it’s going off. PLEASE NO WAY!!!Please somebody take REBA, I watch Lifetime alot, why can’t they take her…..Please
I am really disapointed that the CW canceled the Reba show. I really liked that show. If the cast wants to continue, I hope that another network would renew the Reba show. Anyway, I will miss the show. As far as I am concerned the CW doesn’t have any shows now that I desire to watch.
I think it is awful that the show will no longer be on. It so close to what a real family is like and what they go through, especially when there is a divorce and having teens. I think the CW is making a grave mistake.
I would have to take my family and lock us in the basement with rerun videos of Reba if it was to be taken off the CW. Reba is a TV show that the whole family can watch together. It shows that life can be messy but it is more important to forgive and move on, it shows that you should never put anything above your family, it shows that families must stick together no matter what crazy stuff happens or comes your way.
Our family loves the Reba show and all the characters, we would hate to see it go off the air. It is one of the best shows on TV..KEEP IT ON!
