The AMC series has not been performing well in the ratings but, according to a listing in the Backstage industry casting paper, Rubicon has been renewed for year two. Here’s their info:
Rubicon (Drama, AMC) A think-tank analyst comes to the realization that his colleagues are not who he thought they were and may be a part of a covert organization secretly manipulating world politics and affairs. James Badge Dale stars. Casting: Avy Kaufman Casting, 180 Varick St., 16th Fl., New York, NY 10014. Premiered Aug. 1. Renewed.
Last Sunday’s episode attracted just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 997,000 total viewers. That pales when compared to AMC’s Mad Men which scored a 0.6 demo rating and 2.1 million viewers.
The Backstage listing seems like it’s most likely a typo or error because, for now, they seem to be the only one saying there will be another year.
The season finale of Rubicon, “You Can Never Win,” is set to air next Sunday on AMC.
What do you think? Would you like to see Rubicon return for another year or should it be cancelled?

Please renew!
Considering what Rubicon is all about, would not a blind item in an obscure industry site like Back Stage (as opposed to some “mass media” entertainment website like Entertainment Weekly, Hollywood Reporter) be the perfect way for AMC to place the renewal notice for fans of the show?
LOVE this show. Season 2 is mandatory.
I think it is a great series. It has a descent story line, the acting is good and it has a plot that can go somewhere without becoming science fiction. I would enjoy giving it a chance at a season 2 and see where it goes. I think they’ve got the start of something good.
CRAZY PLOT TWIST! I LOVE IT!
THAT pissed me off……..Will not picking up the DVD…………
there’s TOTALLY Season 2 on the way……..NO DOUBT!
but, I hate that ****.
I’m not surprised by the low numbers. This series took awhile to build. I think AMC knew that going in. I think they’ll give it another shot for season two…..That way, they won’t have to build the characters for 4 episodes. They can cut to the chase. If season two doesn’t cut it………..I wouldn’t renew it…….even though I do love it.
i love this show. i would be lost without it. it’s so well done!!!!!!!
YES PLEASE!!!!!! Please let there be a season 2. And 3 and 4. Things fall apart after 4th seasons, it seems, but by golly let there be the striving for it. I absolutely appreciate Rubicon; the subtlety, the creativity, the moments, the absolutely phenomenal acting — and frankly it’s the best writing on tv right now. Last year, it would have been hard to beat Madmen — this year, however, Rubicon really is top-watch. Top top top top top.
Everything else on my list of shows can wait until I have time to watch them. Rubicon cannot. For Rubicon I make the time.
I think AMC will keep the show.
Absolutely love this show! We look forward to it each week. Great acting and great storyline. Hope so much that it comes back for another season!

I remember the finale of Breaking Bad. For some reason, so many of use thought that it was going to be 2 hours long. Then suddenly after one hour Breaking Bad was over. “Stay tuned” AMC said “for Rubicon”. I logged on to AMC to see what was up. So many BB fans were upset and angry that Breaking Bad was not to be 2 hours long, they swore they would not watch Rubicon because of that. I too was disappointed and not really interested in watching a show with such a strange name. “Rubicon?” I thought. “It sounds like… Read more »
Kids, I’m 62 and have watched too much TV all my life. The live comedy shows like Your Show of Shows, I Love Lucy; the dramas like Alcoa Theater and The Defenders; the westerns Gunsmoke, Maverick, etc. You get the idea. Those days there were 3 channels – CBS NBC ABC – unbelievable! We laughed – we cried. But the TV kept us from worrying too much about The Bomb. We listened to the storytellers. Fifty years later, we have 100’s of channels, and the breadth of programming is overwhelming. An old hack like me should have my choice of… Read more »
I certainly agree with you. While I enjoy some of the reality shows there are way too many. I love action, 24 was one of my favorites. However Rubicon is in a class by its self, there is not another show to compare to it. It is simple in a lot of ways but very complex on the other hand. KEEP THIS SHOW!!!!
Rubicon is a good, well written, intelligent show. Hope they keep it. Even the music is good. Happened to watch it one night and found it compelling even though at first it was slow moving.
If the ratings aren’t high its probably because people have settled for Nonsense and Garbage.
I really like, love this show. It makes you think, unlike most shows. The characters are each amazing, it makes you like each one for different reasons. I have gotten my grandkids to watch this show also. I am 70 years old and definitely not elderly. I can’t wait until tonight! I too watch the show a 2nd time, can’t get enough of it! I am also a big fan of MadMen. Please renew this show, there is not anything on like it! Too much silliness on many shows. I have in the past watched shows on CBS, NBC etc.… Read more »
Great show with fantastic actors and compelling writing. Smarter by a mile than anything else that’s been on TV since The West Wing.
I hope it gets renewed!
