ABC Family has decided to pass on ordering a second season of its freshman sitcom, Ruby & the Rockits.
In Ruby & the Rockits, former teen icon Patrick Gallagher (Patrick Cassidy) has been living quietly with his wife (Katie A. Keane) and their two sons, teenage Jordan (Austin Butler) and sarcastic preteen Ben (Kurt Doss).
Things change when Patrick’s former band-mate brother, David (David Cassidy), shows up with David’s previously unknown teenage daughter, Ruby (Alexa Vega). David doesn’t want to give up his show-biz life and leans on his brother to help raise his daughter, who’s a rising star on her own.
The show debuted on July 21st to 1.6 million viewers and 654,000 in the 18-49 demographic, making Ruby the second best sitcom launch in the network’s history. It even built out of the audience of fellow freshman comedy 10 Things I Hate About You.

Unfortunately, those numbers didn’t hold up and the sitcom lost steam in the following weeks. While the network has renewed 10 Things for another 10 episodes, ABC Family has decided to dump Ruby after one short season.
The final episode is scheduled to air on Tuesday, September 22nd. In the episode, titled “Smells like Teen Drama,” Jordan and Ruby compete for the attention of the same girl. Privileged’s Lucy Hale guest stars as Ruby’s best friend and Jordan’s new girlfriend. Meanwhile, Ben is being bullied at school. David and Patrick want him to fight back while his mother has a very different point of view.

It’s sad to see one of the few family shows not renewed. It’d be great if it had a second chance.
This was an excellent fun, clean show. I hope they find something else for Alexa Vega to do, she’s great. I get annoyed with Shirley Jones’ grandma character for being so mean to Ruby. The other characters on there worked well together too.
see, this is why I don’t even bothering getting excited about new shows! Ruby& the Rockits was an awesome clean comedy. and now its gone, do these people actually listen to their viewers. I am so getting sick of this, every season they lure you in and get you attached to good shows then get rid of them. but dumb shows like 10 things I hate abt u stays on air!!! come on abc family, stop being such a mess!

Okay, I just have one thing to say: What is up with ABC Family cancelling all the good shows? They made a huge mistake in cancelling Ruby and the Rockits. My friends and I all love it, and are extremely upset. I think they should at least do one more season and then see how many viewers they get, and then take it from there. A huge mistake. I am 56 years old and I love the show. Have been a fan of Cassidy brothers for years. Great music and clean fun. What is wrong with ABC Family. I did not even know it was cancelled until today. I was wondering why it wasn’t on last few weeks. Why would you cancel best new show on your network? SO this is why my family rarely watches any ABC channel. They keep on shows that glorify Sex and immorality, but get rid of shows that might actually teach us something. I feel like they canceled it because of all the complaints about the one episode that had a Homosexual man in it. If they had never done that episode they might be still be OK. ABC, including ABC family has a tendency to push the immorality envelope wherever possible. We want wholesome and we will come back. Pathetic abc family! You actually had a decent show on the air but less than a few episodes you take it off?! Yet, you have that AWFUL secret life of the american teen show still on the air…..which in every episode is about sex and NOTHING else!

ABC Family definitely made a mistake, and I hope the realize it soon and put this show back on air. I love this show! It’s so fun, and I really wanted to see what happened between Jordan and Ruby! I wanted to know whether Jordan was going to give it up and find someone else, or if something was going to happen. This show was crap. I’m glad it got canceled I watched the first 3 episodes and I was done. The storyline had potential and the humor was overall bland.
This was an amazing show. We all should send formal letters to abc network to bring it back. We need to do something!

I have been following this show on the internet because it has not come to the shores of Australia. Now come on! If I’m prepared to tune in all the way from Down Under, this show must have something? Actually, in my humble opinion, it has lots of things, not to mention the combined talents of the two Mr Cassidys! The story line was progressive and entertaining and I was interested to see how this family would evolve.

At first I wasn’t quite interested in watching it when the advertising came on because I am normally into Dramas (such as Lincoln Heights) but I watched it because I needed to fill that spot until a show I watch came on at 9. But as I watched I realized that this show was funny and refreashing from the shows I normally watch. So I was beside myself when I learned of the cancelation!
I cannot believe that they canceled ‘Ruby and the Rockits” , Im obsessed with that show! ABC family is making the worst mistake EVER. I believe that this show could be a world hit, if they created much more episodes. Its an amazing show , and I’m just devastated .
