It is the beginning of the end. Creator and showrunner Lizzy Weiss has announced the Switched at Birth TV show, season five, will premiere on Freeform, Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Freeform renewed the series for a ten-episode fifth and final season, in October 2015, leaving Switched at Birth effectively cancelled. In March of this year, it was announced Switched at Birth, season five, would be delayed.
The upcoming last season includes Switched at Birth‘s landmark 100th episode, the celebration of which is pictured above. The award-winning family drama about young women who — as newborns — were given to the wrong families, also examines deaf culture, art, and issues of identity, ethnicity, race, and socio-economics. The Switched at Birth TV series cast includes: Katie Leclerc, Vanessa Marano, Constance Marie, Lea Thompson, D.W. Moffett, Sean Berdy, Lucas Grabeel, Gilles Marini, Ryan Lane, Marlee Matlin, and Ivonne Coll.
Fans have been waiting a long time for the fifth season premiere announcement, as filming wrapped back in April. By May, Weiss had told fans a January 2017 premiere was in the works, but today marks the first time an exact debut date has been announced. The season four finale aired on October 26, 2015.
Check out the Tweets from Weiss, announcing (and clarifying) the fifth and final season of Switched at Birth.

The fourth season finale episode, “And Always Searching for Beauty,” is a cliffhanger. Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Bay (Vanessa Marano) are living in China, when they get a phone call about an emergency back home in Kansas City, Missouri.
What do you think? How would you like the fifth and final season of the Switched at Birth TV series to play out? Do you think it is ending at the right time, or should Freeform have renewed it for a sixth season?
I have been waiting for this program to come back on. I just love it and don’t want to see it cancelled.
Please reconsider keeping this great series going. We need to see how Daphne, Bay, Emmet, et al progress through adulthood. This is the best series in years and I don’t want these “friends” to go away.
