Several weeks ago, FOX unveiled their latest cop drama called The Chicago Code. The series has the enviable position of following the network’s popular House series. How have the ratings been? Strong enough to get it renewed or will it be cancelled?
The Chicago Code follows officers of the Chicago Police Department as they fight crime while also trying to expose political corruption within the city. Veteran Chicago Police Detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads the special unit fighting against the corruption. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.
The series debuted to a decent 2.4 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo which isn’t very good but isn’t horrible either. Since then, the ratings have been slowly eroding. The last three original episodes have registered a 1.8 in the demo with an average of 6.16 million viewers. That’s not very good and puts the series squarely “on the bubble.” It could be easily renewed or cancelled.
FOX has three shows that are basically in the same boat — Chicago Code, Lie to Me, and Human Target.
Of the three, Human Target seems the most likely to be cancelled. It got the lowest ratings and the network already renewed it once in hopes that the numbers would improve. They didn’t. It’s also been off the air for months.
Whether they decide to renew Chicago Code and/or Lie to Me will likely have a lot to do with how much faith the execs have in their pilots for the new season. Depending on available timeslots, they could choose to renew one, both, or neither.
As a result, Chicago Code’s ratings over the next couple weeks will likely play a big role in the decision to cancel or renew the show. Including tonight’s episode, the series only has two airings before the FOX schedule is unveiled for 2011-12 on Monday, May 16th. (You can watch this list to stay updated on what’s renewed or cancelled.)
What do you think? Does Chicago Code deserve to be cancelled or renewed for season two?

Please renew the Chicago Code. The Chicago Code on Fox and Justified on FX are my two favorite shows right now.
We really enjoy the Chicago Code and hope it will be renewed. Living in Nebraska, it is nice to watch a show set in the Midwest. And I believe it has gotten better and better with each episode. It is great to have an alternative to reality T.V.
I just saw the season finale and my wife said that the wordage read that it was the series finale and not the season finale. We saw every epidose of the show this year, either live or taped. Being opposite “Dancing With The Stars” certainly did not help the ratings, that is for sure. However, I believe this show to be, by far, the best I have seen in a long time. The way TV goes these days, they will probably cancel it and perhaps go to the type show that seems to please the producers – with sex, nudity,… Read more »
awesome show
I love how they tie in historical places (like showing the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre), or showing the history of corrupt politicians.
I love the show… there are so many different areas to continue the story line…. I like the foreshadowing of Gibbons being brought down because of the Irish Mob. I think they can also follow a story line where they go after the Judge for corruption.
Started watching the show 4 episodes ago and think it is great. Hopefully it will not get cancelled.
it is one of the top 5 shows on tv
THIS SHOW IS THE WORST PIECE OF CRAP I HAVE EVER SEEN, CANCEL THIS HORRIBLE EXCUSE FOR A COP SHOW. COP SHOWS NEED TO BE VIOLENT AMD GRITTY, NOT SLAP STICK LIKE THIS PIECE OF ****
I love the show…I was put off my repeats already…but last night was very interesting…looking forward to next weeks show. JB is such a classy lady!
It’s a great show(One of a very few). Keep it on!!
Chicago code is pretty good, with one of the only things that annoys me about it is their crap portrayal of chicago.sometimes they do addresses that don’t exist, or streets that go the wrong way, but besides that,i like it.fox better not act all stupid and cancel it.
The Chicago Code is one of THE best shows on TV, period. The writing is fantastic, the stories are fresh, and the actors bring a unique perspective to their characters…..if Jason Clarke isn’t nominated for an Emmy for his performance next year in this show, I’m going to be really disappointed. Bring this show back. I’ll echo what others have said…..I am SICK AND TIRED of the good shows being taken off the air. I don’t watch much TV as it is, but I look forward to this show every week, just like I did when 24 was on the… Read more »
YES, definitely renew Chicago Code. It’s a show my husband and I both agree on — very well written. Please don’t take away all our good cop shows!!! I hope they have figured out a way to count those of us that DVR it…we don’t watch anything live — except the news.
renew! I love this show, filmed in my home town!
I love Chicago Code. It’s a great, fast pacead show and I too have been watching it since day one. They keep all these crappy shows on and keep giving them anothr chance, but a great show comes a long, and they blow it off. What the heck?
