TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Please keep The Librarians! I understand that TNT wants to gear toward a line-up with more of an edge, but they must not forget that there cannot be an edge if they don’t keep any shows that everyone can enjoy! What better way than to ‘live in a world of Fantasy’? A world that The Librarians can supply? Please keep The Librarians!?
I love this show!!! Please keep it!!!! My husband, who doesn’t usually watch shows or movies like this, has watched and loves every one of the Librarian movies and these shows tho he has to catch them when he can because he works the weekend shift! Hint hint….air them during the week, too, please!!!
PLS KEEP the Librarians. Everyone in my house watches it. This is a great show and it would be a mistake to cancel. We look forward to watching it every week.

PLEASE renew this series! It is so very difficult these days to find an enjoyable series that actually has some modicum of taste and intelligence while still providing comedy, suspense, and action. Please keep “The Librarians” in the TNT line-up & help deliver your viewers from the onslaught of the ‘Kardashian Karavan’, duck calls, “redneckognizing”, and other miscellaneous drivel. Long live the Librarians! (We request with hopeful hearts!)
Cancel it and bring back Leverage.
