TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

I hope that it comes back for a 2nd season. I love this show.

Please allow “The Librarians to develop. It’s a fun show to watch, and the characters are just beginning to show their depth. None of them are flawless, which is so refreshing. And the villains are interesting as well. None of them are completely evil (well, except for serial killer Katie). The plots are interesting, with twists and bends that keep me involved. And I have a feeling that Morgan Le Fey isn’t through with them yet.
I love this show so much and know others who love it too it NEEDS to get a second season!
I didn’t think that I would get hooked by this show. But I am very happy to say that I was wrong. It was a very cool mixture of humor, fantasy and fun special effects. Please bring it back for another season. I look forward to seeing each and everyone of the characters again.
Best new show out there …KEEP.
Please keep the show going! It’s intelligent and fun at the same time. I never saw the movies but have been hooked since the first previews showed up on TV. Love it!
Keep it, by all means! It is light, fun, and fresh! So many good–really good–shows have been cancelled (“Perception” and “Franklin and Bash” come to mind), let’s keep some that are not just stupid and/or insulting. I get so tired of watching annoying people behave badly; well, actually, that’s not true–I DON’T watch shows that are nothing but annoying people behaving badly.
I LOVE this show. Please, please, please don’t cancel.
Please renew this show. It is fun to watch and the cast has great chemistry.
