TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

I love this show and I enjoyed the movies when they came out and then when I realized there was a show I was thrilled! DONT CANCEL THIS SHOW! It has such a great following so there’s no need.

I am 55 soon going to be 56. Keep the librarians it’s a good show. But why do network get people interested in shows and cancel them. I hate that. I stopped watching the CW because they started canceling shows more than not. I’m not the only one who does that.
The Librarians is one of the few shows I watch that isn’t a guilty pleasure because it’s great on every level: acting, script, effects, plot, everything. I love it, please keep it for many more seasons.

I really enjoy this show, as do my brother-in-law and Dad! I like the characters and the actors do well together.
Just wanted to remind the producers that they DID introduce the show at the height of the holiday season where hardly anyone has time to sit still and relax–let alone watch and critique a new show. Thank goodness I can download the show to my computer which allowed me to catch up on those shows I couldn’t catch on the T.V.

I’ve just started watching the show. My husband said I should give it a try since I like shows like it. Well he was right, I love it. We are having a Librarian-a-thon TKH’s week end. We’re devoting the whole day to catching me up!!
Who knew it was even on? Where is the commercials promoting it??, and yes, poor time to start a new series alkyd with poor advertising for the show.
