TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

i loved the movies and i love the series! please dont cancel. the characters are so great and i love that theres adventure and magic as well as action and humor…. seriously RENEW! i love that Noah Wyle pops up every now and then but honestly i miss charlene (Jane Curtin) character…
I love this show! The characters are a little quirky (which I love) and the adventures are awesome! It is well written and fun plus it makes you think and want to find magic in THIS world! Please renew for many more seasons!

Please, PLEASE renew it TNT! I love this show – just as I did the original movies! Love the characters and their individual arcs, along with the overall storyline! I know the ratings for S1 may not have been the best, but every good show needs time to grow and expand. And with the fantabulous Dean D. at the helm, and the cast including Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, John Larroquette, Noah Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart, The Librarians has an entire UNIVERSE of potential!!!!

Our entire family was looking forward to this series, we liked many of the actors and actresses chosen for the show… We did not enjoy the first few episodes, had trouble ‘getting into the plot’, we didn’t ‘feel’ like the show was drawing us in. We kept watching… (on DVR – a few days after the show was on)
Then they had the ‘fairy tale town’ – we loved that episode and began looking forward to all the other shows. Big improvement, night and day really.

Please don’t cancel this one. I get so tired of fun shows going off the air, yet ridiculous reality shows seem to clog the channels. Please don’t get rid of a show that lets me forget about all the annoying people I have to deal with every day. I have reality up to my eyeballs. In addition to having a great show, you have some wonderful actors that I don’t get to see anywhere else. Your viewers will thank you for leaving this gem on the air.
