TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Keep! Keep! Keep!
Keep it!!!! You guys need to give shows a chance. I love the mystery and suspense the show has. Taking you places we would not and could not imagine. Open your minds up for an adventure and keep it.
It would be nice if TBT kept the Librarians, after all you got rid of Leverage-Memphis Beat-The Closer-Franklin and Bash. The Librarians is an hour of television that we enjoy watching and helps start our week off with great talk by the water cooler
The show is AMAZING and I believe there should be more seasons of it! I love the chemistry that all the actors have and there just seem to be more stories to come out of it! Please, please, pleeeease let it continue!
Keep it please. It is one of the few shows I can actually watch with my kids that we all like. It is also nice to get my kids out of the kid channels and see there other shows they can like.

Love the Librarians. One of the best shows on TV. Thank you for a great show. NEED A LOT MORE EPISODES.
Keep it!! I honestly don’t care if Noah Wyle comes back with it, because the other four (AND John Laroquette) are wonderful!
Keep! Love it!
i thought the opening to episodes were weak but it definitely hit its stride after the santa episode and it ended strong. I liked that it has a short season and that it ended the main storyline. I vote to renew
After watching the movies, I waited patiently for the series. Please don’t cancel this show. There’s south trash out there, let’s keep one family show please. I love it and I will tune in when ever where ever!!
