After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
PLease reconsider cancellig this show. My husband and I LOVED it!!!!! Fox, I had faith in you after you kept Til Death, keep Wedding Bells too!!!!!
My husband and I enjoyed watching this show every Friday night. We’re in that “middle-upper class demographic” that advertisers like so much and I am very disappointed to see it has been canceled. Please bring it back, Fox!
I am extremely disappointed that FOX pulled this light, breezy clever show!! What are they thinking? Finally somethng worth while to watch on Friday night. FOX should have given this show time. Word of mouth could have brought in the viewers they so demanded. Very disappointed. It really needs to come back. They made a huge, impulsive mistake.
I can’t believe they cancelled my favorite show…
My husband was most reluctant to watch The Wedding Bells; however, it was so delightfully funny that he became a regular- short as it was. We told our friends about it and they wanted to watch it too, but now you are cancelling it. Give the show a good night and another chance. People need to see it.
God forbid we actually have something original hit primetime. This was an excellent show that I was already fiercely loyal to. But, I understand if FOX is getting ready to air another crime show.
I am in shock that Fox continues to cancel good shows that we have enjoyed watching. They just disappear with no warning and worst of all no ending.
Friday night is definitely not a good night for a good tv show. Most people are not even home!!! Wedding Bells was a great show. I loved the characters and the plot was definitely different and it kept me laughing. Why not put it on a different night and see what happens. Come on Fox you’ve got to quit doing this to us…there would be more to life than just AI.
Several Fridays have gone by without being able to view delightfully exciting, wonderfully written and acted Wedding Bells. I have not ever pursued a show before but my family and I really miss the Friday night date we had with it. I have no idea how all our pleas to keep this show going will effect your actions. I do hope you will not only again pick up the show on TV but you will also make it into a great GP movie keeping all those actors.
Big Mistake.. Do not cancel this show!
I told my wife that Fox just had to film more episodes not to worry. So here I am two weeks later and I go looking on the web for details and you have cancelled it. We loved that show! This is the problem with networks you have something good and you don’t let it progress. We have been searching the cable guide in anticipation. This is the first time I have complained to any network. What are you guys trying to be NBC?
i hate fox. they always cancel the good shows
I can’t imagine why Fox would cancel such a fun an entertaining show! It really aggravates me. My whole family enjoyed it immensely. It’s the only thing worth watching on Friday evening! I turned on my friends to it and they were sucked-in, too! Is there ANY CHANCE Fox will regain their sanity and put it back on??
I am so disappointed. The Wedding Bells was such a treat at the end of a long week. is there any way we can get Fox to reconsider?
This is ridiculous! I loved the show and watched it from the beginning. I was looking forward to seeing the two women get married, but they canceled it. Can’t they at least put it on at a different time? There are many of us that loved it!
my husband and I loved this show..one of the first shows on “regular”..not cable..that we have actually looked forward to watching every week…bring this show BACK!
whoever decided to cancel the wedding bells should be fired, its clear that the shows has an audience just from all of our comments alone. Ok and white chicks was funny the first hundred times aired don’t you think its getting a little old now couldn’t you think of anything else. i am very disapointed in the networks decision to cancel the show and i refuse to watch fox as a result of it!
U STINK!
