After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
Oh sure. Take away The Wedding Bells and leave White Chicks. Have you lost your minds??
This really upsets me. I was really getting into this show. Is it because all America wants is violence on T.V.? This show gave us a break from the same ole ho hum. Please bring it back. What can we fans do?
Wedding Bells is a cute, quirky show that I could watch in front of my children. It seems like all of the shows that I like get cancelled. I believe that the networks just don’t give them a chance.
I’d say “The Wedding Bells” deserve another chance to be seen by the public. If it’s aired on either Monday or Wednesday, the show’ll probably attract more audience. Now when I just got hooked on the show, Fox cancels it..what a disappointment!
Just saw the show and loved it so much..I looked sooo forward to watching more…so sad…can we save the show?!?!?!
WHAT! I can’t believe that this show has been cancelled. I really enjoyed it and looked foward to watching it each week. Please put it back on and give it a better time slot and it will be successful!
I seriously cannot believe that this show is being cancelled!!!! I never even watch TV anymore because there is nothing to ever watch!!! Except for REALITY TV!!! I can’t believe this. So I guess they think they’ll get better rating with reruns of stupid movies like “White Chicks”?!?!!? I guess it’s back to no TV for me!
What’s wrong with you TV exec’s. You put a good decent show on but don’t give it a change. The actors are really good. I especially like Benjamin King and Teri Polo’s roles.Don’t take this fun and interesting show off the air. And that show “The
White Chicks” Pleaseeee. Wedding Bells is the only reason I watch Fox in the first place!!!!!
This show was great. It was clever and funny.
I love The Wedding Bells! I was devastated to hear that it is being cancelled. There has to be a way to save it. It is hilarious and has some valuable messages. The actors are so talented. I don’t think it got a fair chance. Many people in its target demographic are even home to watch TV on Friday night so they probably don’t know about it. How about Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday when there is nothing to watch on any network!
I can’t believe The Wedding Bells was cancelled! We loved this show & looked forward to Friday nights. Hopefully, FOX will re-think this decision & maybe move the show to another night. The actors are GREAT & the show needs another chance!! BRING IT BACK!!!!
We’ve been telling all of our friends that they have to watch this show! We both laugh throughout the entire hour. What a disappointment that Fox has decided to pull this one. Move it to another night and see how it does! Friday night slots aren’t going to do well. It’s a David E. Kelley show! That speaks for itself!
This show is great! How can it be taken off the air. Fox needs to Put it back on after Idol and it could get more viewers! ENOUGH with all these ridicoulous reality shows keep the normal television that everybody used and still wants to watch.
of course a friday night show wouldn’t last. it was such a cute show but so many people go out to dinner or whatever on friday nights after a long work week. put it on in the middle of the week when everyone’s home.
This is not was one of my favorite shows, I can not believe that it is over, what a colossal waste. So bright and fun, I LOVE all the characters, BRING IT BACK, BRING IT BACK,BRING IT BACK…
