After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
I absolutely loved this show. Great writing, good performers, very entertaining. The producers and actors did their job. You failed with your programming. Maybe you should reconsider.
Oh, Please bring The Wedding Belles back! I’ve pretty much given up on t.v. and this is one show that I like and don’t feel like I need to keep the remote in hand so that I can turn the channel when the kids walk in the room.
I think the show is smart and clever and I really miss it already. This is THE one show that I looked forward to watching every week. I even set the DVR to tape all episodes just in case I were to miss it.
PLEASE bring back the Wedding Bells. It is my favorite show and I truly looked forward to it coming on Friday. PLEASE Fox, bring it back!!!
Please put this show back on the air. I love it!!!!
This was a great show. It was fun and entertaining and something the whole family could enjoy. I’m not always home on Fridays but I TiVo’d the show every week and enjoyed it when I had the time. I can’t believe you canceled it. Please bring it back.
Please bring this funny show back. What were you thinking cancelling it before it had a chance to catch on? I had to go on line to find out what happened to it, please reconsider placing it in another time slot, giving it to another syndication or at least giving it another chance on Friday evenings. It was finally something to look forward to on Friday nights. PLEASE RECONSIDER THIS DECISION!!! THANKS!
After a few weeks of checking my DVD-RW to see that White chicks and House were recorded instead of Wedding Bells, i google it, knowing that FOX would not cancle it..It must have been moved to another date! But NOOOO it has been axed. Friday night is my bowling nite, once I get home my boyfriend and I get real hype to cozy up on the couch and watch this GREAT show.I agree to what everyone says, it reminded me of one of my favorite shows, Alley McBeal! WHY FOX WHY>…Just put it on a Tuesday slot and call it… Read more »
Keep the show! PLEASE! I watched the episodes online and love it- just give people a chance to find out about it. My roommate and I are huge fans who want to see more.
Again…?! Everytime I turn around they’re cancelling a new “Good” show. Excellent cast, writing and content. Overall, an excellent show. I am so fed up with ALL the “Garbage” that is on, that stays on. Then you find something moderately “Wholesome” that the whole family can watch “TOGETHER” AND THEY CANCEL IT! You know what that says about what society (at least enough of society that keeps the “garbage” on)wants? Smut, Violence, Drugs, Drama, Garbage etc. etc. etc. What happened to “Laughter is the best medicine”? A good old-fashioned COMEDY. That’s why the majority of the population has become so… Read more »
PLEASE bring this show back, I loved it if you wont bring it back give it to someone else to bring it back, you did the same thing with Firefly, give your new shows a chance to build a rep and get an audience following!!!
I am so disappointed that this show was canceled! I looked forward to watching it; it’s clean, funny, and had great singing, to boot! Please reconsider.
you know what the first time i’ve knew about this show this is one of my favorite show in fox channel. And its so sad that it ends soon. That you end the show thats good and you choose to stay the bad show instead. How could you?
Please put the Weddings Bells back on your channel.
Oh Fox, it isn’t like you have a lot to offer in the way of intelligent programming in the first place. It is still stunning to me that House is still on, was someone napping on that day and missed the fact that this is a good show too? Any time any show is put on that has a modicum of intellectual appeal i.e. House, Boston Legal I cringe in fear of watching just in case I get sucked into the characters lives because I know some moron at a TV show will say “oops not making enough money” and… Read more »
I love this show. I TIVO’d every episode and when I checked my list of recordings and it wasn’t there I was very upset. Why not try it on a different night? Please!!!
I just want to express how disappointed I am in FOX for canceling the Wedding Bell series. I thought it was great! It had such a nice variety of humor, sarcasim and emotion. It left us hanging until the next episode, counting the days until friday to watch it. Talk about leaving you hanging…I spent nice quality time with my mom watching this show. It was so nice to finally have a show to relate to. If FOX network would rather replace it, then why can’t another station pick it up. I hope FOX reads these comments, because if they… Read more »
