After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
I am so disappointed that Wedding Bells was cancelled. The characters and emotions were so real! It seems that men liked this show as much as women, my husband included! I have to admit that we did not watch the show on Friday nights, but taped it to watch later. We didn’t want to miss an episode! Lucky for me we still have the episodes taped!! Does FOX have any series that has done well on a Friday night!?! It doesn’t seem that shows are given second chances, but with better marketing and advertising and a better night – who… Read more »
This is one of those shows you should give a second chance to. The Wedding Bells is an extremely funny show and the characters totally made the show a hit in my book. Please bring back The Wedding Bells.
This show is definately one of those shows you should give a second chance to. The Wedding Bells is a great show and the character were entertaining. Please bring back The Wedding Bells.
I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU PEOPLE!!!! YOU ARE NUTS! I LOOKED FORWARD EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT TO WATCHING THIS AND YOU PULL IT BEFORE IT IS EVEN GIVEN A CHANCE! BUT YOU KEEP STUPID THINGS ON LIKE THE SIMPSONS, ETC. SHOWS WHERE YOUR HEADS ARE…BRING IT BACK. EVERYONE WAS GREAT ON THIS SHOW. TRY ANOTHER NIGHT IF YOU HAVE TO!
This show was funny with a capital F. My wife and I made a point to watch each episode. The writing was excellent and we so enjoyed the actors interaction with each other. Fox did not give the show a true amount of time before the ax was dropped.
I wish the show could be brought back. It was getting more and more captivating every week.
What are you NUTS!!!!!!!! This was an excellent show, you did not give it a chance! Well FOX if you want this person to watch your station you had better do something about it. Because most of your shows are garbage. The show was developing wonderfully, it very humorous , some parts just extremely funny. I also have assisted in planning weddings, and I could relate to this show. And for the most part this show was a lot cleaner and more up lifting than some of the other garbage you put on. Thanks for nothing! Sneaky as a Fox,… Read more »
Maybe one of the top shows on tv lately. Great concept and well written. Remember: MASH would have been cancelled following this current stategy.
I am so sorry this show has been canceled. As a double income no kids consumer, I cannot believe that Wedding Belles, that showed so much promise, is gone. Why can’t they give these shows a chance? Fox would have cancelled West Wing based on this strategy.
Bring it back.
Please.
Please, please Mr./Mrs/Ms. Decision Makers at FOX, bring the show back! This show cracked me up.
I can’t believe no one watch this program. I really enjoyed this program. I am so sorry this is the finale. Now whats going to happen is there will be another stupid reality show.
I love this show. Please try again for the summer. It is far better than most shows. The characters are quirky and interesting. After watchin, I feel truly entertained. Save this show. Too many people have not seen it. When they do, it will become a hit.
Again, I cannot believe you have cancelled this show. It is a much better program than your ratings show. Hopefully, ABC can pick it up and it would be another Ugly Betty hit!! We need to be able to watch something good and entertaining instead of all the evil and killing in other programs.
In my opinion the Wedding Bells was a hit! Women love the movie The Wedding Planner.
Please reconsider and put it back. Thanks!
