After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
I can’t believe this!! What a shame! It was the first non-reality show I had gotten into since Seinfeld left the network! Great cast and writing! Shame on you Fox!
i can’t believe the show is cancelled. i have seen every episode, and LOVED it! i love the cast and the content is funny and smart! i don’t understand the logic behind cancelling it. i was just telling everyone i know to tune in…PLEEEEEEASE bring it back!!
I rushed my husband & daughter out of the pizzeria Friday night so I would be home in time to watch Wedding Bells. What a disappointment to find out the show has been cancelled. I had not enjoyed a show like this in 10 years. Please put it back on the air.
I cannot believe that yet
another quality show with great writing and a wonderful cast has been cancelled. I guess that all of the T.V. networks think that everyone would rather watch reality T.V. shows that seem to be just getting more ridiculous every week.
I for one, am sick of the networks not giving great shows more chances to gain viewership. Bring “The Wedding Bells” back!!!
I am so upset about Wedding Bells being cancelled. I had it programmed on my DVR and was shocked when it was not scheduled to record and saw message “no future episodes scheduled to be recorded”. This is one of my favorite TV shows. I don’t think you all gave it a chance. The Friday night time slot was a black mark against it to begin with. This show should be moved to another night and time and given a second chance. Please don’t cancel it. I am 57 years old, but this show is a delight for all ages,… Read more »
How do we get this great program back. We just loved to watch this while it was on. Most of the stuff on Fox is too bad for my family to watch so we tune Fox out. Please bring back the program, I can only watch so many Are you smarter than a 5th grader!!Hello !!!!
Thanks a lot FOX. I am so disappointed The Wedding Bells has been cancelled. I was patient for a couple of weeks hoping it had only been put on hiatus, but now I find out the truth; CANCELLED?? Are you Kidding Me? To take this show off the air is such a mistake. It has an excellent cast, along with excellent story lines. There is whitty humour, drama, and yes…it even had sex, (for those people who can’t seem to get enough of it from every other program). I hope there is some way that we can bring this show… Read more »
Very disappointed to see that this show was cancelled. It was one of the few on either network or cable that isn’t dominated by violence or sex. Sad commentary on our society and Fox network.
I hope writing this comment will help bring back Wedding Bells. It was wonderfully written and I looked forward to watching it. I’m married and in my late 40’s so, I’m not out late on Friday nights. I think it would get more viewers if it was on a different day.
Too bad–it was a cute comedy. I had found a new program to enjoy. So back to watching the Weather Channel in that time slot.
I am so disappointed. I turned to Fox last night to watch the Wedding Bells and found White Chicks. White Chicks??!!! Why? I love this show. It was hilarious. My kids love this show. I missed last week’s episode and have been kicking myself since. I really wanted to see the wedding singer school. I love Fred Willard. He’s always funny. Why did Fox have to cancel such a good show? I try not to watch new shows when they come out because they usually get cancelled after I’m engaged. This is yet another example.
I can’t believe The Wedding Bells was canceled! It’s so funny. I always laughed until I cried. Nobody even knew about it…I’ve been telling all my friends and they just started watching it, and looking forward to it. They died laughing at it also. I just happened to tune into it on the 1st episode, and loved it. To the “Fox channel powers that be”: please reconsider and bring it back…give it a chance for word to get out about it…it is a winner! Why can’t you see that?
I am so disgusted that Fox canceled The Wedding Bells! It was my favorite show! I was livid tonight when I rushed home from shopping to sit and relax and watch it only to find White Chicks playing instead! I went online looking to see did they maybe change the time again, only to find that they had canceled it! I really loved it! Certainly a show that is suitable for the family would get cancelled…. I’m completly disgusted with FOX!
I was having a conversation with my sister this evening. When I realised it was just about time for “Wedding Bells” to start, I abruptly ended our conversation, and LITERALLY ran to my room to tune into FOX. To watch the best show broadcasted on Friday nights. When I tuned in to FOX to watch “Wedding Bells”, I saw “White Chicks”. Of cours, I did the only thing I could do, go to another channel. I thought that maybe, it would be showed at a later time, so, at 10:00 I switched back to FOX, only to realize “Wedding Bells”… Read more »
Let me add my sentiment. I’m totally disgusted that this show was pulled. I give up! I think I’m throwing out my TV! Every time an awesome show airs and I get hooked, it gets pulled. Will someone tell me what the heck is going on? Brilliant writing…wonderful characters you want to root for…and great acting…and poof…another one bites the dust. I give up.
