After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
It makes no sense to me, why would Fox would cancel “Wedding Bells”, it was such a good show!!!!
It seems all the good shows get pulled, while shows such as, 7th Heaven, stay on!!!
Keep Wedding Bells on,PLEASE!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!! you finally get a decent show and then you cancel it – go figure. Do we need some more blood and gore for it to make it? It was so nice to have show that could be enjoyed by the whole family and not have to cover their ears or eyes because of indecency. Lets try to at least see the rest of the season – we need to enjoy a little of life.
We loved this show and are so disappointed to see it go. There are so few shows on TV that make you laugh for an hour and are good clean fun. Please reconsider bringing this back.
My wife and I also enjoyed wedding bells. Is it possible to give it a try at another day or time. How about back after american idol again, if it worked before.
Hey I really like the Weddin bells. I think the reason you lost viewers is because it was moved to friday, try a different evening people are always doing something on fridays. I don’t know wht night but for me a friday is one of the hardest days to tune in.
I am so disappointed to hear Wedding Bells is not being picked up. David Kelly has done yet another terrific job of writing and all the actors are great. I too agree, if you moved it to a week night it would be enjoyed by millions. Please try to get it back on the new schedule.
I’m sooooo disappointed to read this news. Please bring back The Wedding Bells! I really liked this show!!!!
I am sooo disappointed that this show has been canceled! I really looked forward to coming home on Friday night, and curling up on the sofa with a glass of wine waiting to see what antics the sisters were up to. This show was so funny and cute and I’m really going to miss it. Why is it that all the crappy shows get to stay on and the really good ones get the shaft? Please consider bringing it back.
I can’t believe Fox is canceling one of my favorite shows! I rarely watch anything but PBS. This was the one show other than a documentary that I like. It was really funny not stupid.
This show is very well done. Bring it back! Thanks for your website. Regards, Donna
I loved this show. I was just telling all of my friends to watch this show!!
I absolutely loved Wedding Bells! Entertaining without all the trash (i.e. sex, violence, strong language). Wedding bells was one of just a few shows I watch during the week and I prefer it over American Idol! BRING WEDDING BELLS BACK!!!!
There is nothing wrong with the show that ten episodes wouldn’t have cleared up. But the scheduling of a program on Friday during sports finals is plain stupid. Someone really dropped the ball on this one. Just seems as if cleaver is not something people want. Spoon fed, low production value, embarassment is what too many 18-24’s want to see. Such a shame. Give the show a second chance, or allow it to move to a different network. Then watch several honchos fall flat on their collective butts when the show catches in the right time slot. Sunday or Wednesday… Read more »
Rather than Cancel Wedding Bells, find a different night to see if ratings perk-up! This is a refreshing, light, show that has nothing to do with the current fads of Sex or Reality but does provide a talented cast and celever story lines. Give this show another chance. You might be pleasantly surprised.
I am very upset that Fox cancelled the Wedding Bells ! It was a cute show and something the whole family could watch. Is there anything we can do to save it?
I think Fox made a very large mistake cancelling Wedding Bells. Bring it back on a weeknight 8pm time slot, Friday night is not the best night to determine ratings!!The show is something the whole family can enjoy!!! Give it a chance and advertise it to play on a weeknight. Does Fox feel that sex, violence and stupidity make for better ratings!!! This show appeals to families who are sick of watching mindless entertainment. PUT IT BACK!!!
