After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
WE LOVED THIS SHOW!! WE HAVEN’T LAUGHED SO HARD SINCE SEINFELD. GREAT WRITING AND SUCH ORIGINAL CHARACTERS! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!
like someone else said, good shows die you, trash carries on over and over and over!!
It’s always the great shows that suffer this fate.
I LOVE this show! Looked forward to out loud laughing every Friday night!! In fact, it WAS the only reason I tuned in to FOX at all! It’s not like American Idol is worth our time anymore.
Bring it back!!!
I am very dissapointed to find that yet another new show has been cancelled. When you see a preview for a new show I`m almost afraid to even watch it. Because sure enough you get into it and then it gets cancelled. I really wonder how the viewer polling works. Maybe there is a different way to check. Because you read all these e-mails sent in and obviously people are watching? I don`t understand why anything seems to be aired on Friday nights. Everything new always gets cancelled. So can you not pick another night? How about trying it over… Read more »
I was looking forward to watching it every Friday evening. It was something all people could relate to. Wedding Bells was not some unrealistic, mystique, or violent show. It was very relaxing, interesting, and smart. The type of humor expressed was of that kind which a person of any age could be enjoying. The script was written in a very intelligent, and appealing manner, which gave actors a chance to become one of us. It is a shame this show had to be cancelled. It was not given enough time to prove itself.
I LOVED THIS SHOW. I HAD DVR’D IT AND WHEN IT DIDN’T RECORD I GOOGLED IT TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. I’M IN SHOCK THEY CANCELED THE SHOW, IT WAS REALLY FUNNY!
I can’t belive this show was cancelled…. this was a great show..please bring it back! My husband loved the show, it sparked a lot of interesting conversations between us. Really great show!!
I thought this show was funny & a little bit quirky, but hey thats what I like about David Kelly’s TV shows. Why would you cancel this show? I’m still getting over Picket Fences & Ally McBeal, at least show reruns of them. They were both clever & funny & drama! Instead of a rerun of some dumb movie White Chicks or maybe you could show Jaws again! I think it has been only a day or so since that has been aired on cable!!! Come on give good writng shows a chance.
The Wedding Bells show was great!! Interesting characters and very humorous!! Please rethink your decision to pull this show!! Give it another try on another day and a different time slot; and, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how its ratings will increase!!!
I loved this show. Please don’t cancel Wedding Bells…please…
OMG IT IS FRIDAY…WHAT AM I GOING TO WATCH THAT CAN POSSIBLY REPLACE THE WEDDING BELLS????????????????
OMG, i can not beleive that this show has been cancelled it is an awesome show it would be so great if fox would change their minds and give it another shot maybe on a different night. It was s nice to watch a funny hour long show…so sad that this happened
I am so sad to hear that you have taken Wedding Bells off the air.I looked forward to watching it. All the characters and the episodes were awsome. It made me laugh. it was something I really enjoyed watching and it was clean, and funny, instead of that filth thier show these days. I hope you put this show back on. The writers are awsome, and the characters are awsome.
Please put back on air the wedding bells. I loved the show so much. Please, please, please.
Thanks a lot.
I was shock and dismayed to learn you pulled out the show. I waited and waited for it to come on for weeks now. You didn’t even warn the viewers of its demise. I thought that was really rude.
