It’s not looking good for season two of The Whispers. The ABC TV show has been dropping in the ratings and now, the network has let the cast’s options expire.
On The Whispers, several Washington, DC children start talking about and playing with an imaginary friend. When their mysterious games turn dangerous, FBI child specialist Claire Bennigan (Lily Rabe) is called in to investigate. The rest of the cast includes Barry Sloane, Milo Ventimiglia, Derek Webster, Kristen Connolly, Kylie Rogers, and Kyle Harrison Breitkopf.
Word is that the cast’s contract options for a second season expired at the end of June. According to Deadline, ABC hasn’t given up on The Whispers just yet however and want more time to make a decision.
The network tried to get a two-week extension but that didn’t happen — in part because of series star Lily Rabe. She and other members of the cast weren’t happy that, after the pilot was shot last May, shooting of the series was relocated to Vancouver.
Shooting in Los Angeles would be too expensive for the low-rated drama so producers have a plan for Rabe to do a limited number of episodes if the series ends up being renewed.
If The Whispers is picked up for a second season, new contracts will have to be negotiated — providing the castmembers want to return or aren’t already committed to other projects. Ventimiglia is being eyed for the lead role in a pilot for USA Network called Shooter.
What do you think? Would you like to see The Whispers renewed for a second season or, should ABC cancel it and move on?
I hope that The Whispers is renewed. I agree. It is an intelligent show, and intelligent shows take time to develope followings. But, those followings tend to be very loyal, something that Network executives seem to forget about. Maybe they want to keep their audiences dumbed down? I guess we will just have to see.
Good show give it a chance!!
Of course “The Whispers” will be canceled. It’s an intelligent show that actually requires the audience to do more than stare blankly at a screen, drooling on themselves. Shows that require an IQ higher than the network executives’ golf scores never do well. On to the next cancellation…
Ya right…..This dog is really deep…..I’ve been reading the same nonsense about Hannibal. Like watching something akin to paint drying is a great feat. It’s not, and what works in books often doesn’t work as well acted out. Bottom line is its about entertainment. Especially something that will grab and retain the interest of the 17 to 34 age group. They want something thought provoking, but not PBS slow mo. There needs to be something both interesting and something people can get behind. I don’t think this show provides that and I don’t think they did a good job picking… Read more »
Crappy acting a bad story does not make. The story is quite brilliant. I agree that the acting is extremely forced, at times. That isn’t the story’s fault. It’s the fact that they didn’t want to spend more money for better actors. Kind of shooting themselves in the foot with that decision. The other poor decision? Deciding to send it to Canada for production. I would have thought that they learned their lesson with Rookie Blue. Now, if you want a crap story along with crap acting… that is the place to find it.
I have enjoyed the unpredictability of this show. This show is also for people who have a brain and can think. Otherwise, you can always watch mindless garbage lie 2 Broke Girls or CSI Cyber. You can also watch nonsense like most reality shows. It doesn’t require you to do anything and watch. This is the society we are heading for.
Please keep the whispers on TV!!! It is a great show that has a wonderful talented cast. I get tired of these network execs. Who have nothing better to do than cancel great programs. Stop the nonsense and keep good shows on the air. There have been too many shows ended without a good reason. You will lose lots of viewers that way. Take off the stupid shows that are mindless and silly.
It started out interesting, but by the third episode it lost its appeal to me. A bunch of kids blindly obeying some voice in their head to win…..but none really knew what they were willing to go to such lengths for. What did they expect to win? I figured by the third episode that if that’s their best game, then the show really didn’t have much. Apparently others tapped out too. When are these people who create shows going to realize you need more than just a good opening to make a show work? Without keeping real intrigue you lose… Read more »
Exactly! TYVM for saving me from keyboarding that.
Same here!
If you do cancel it, please at least give us an ending to it…………..
This is a great show. Why would you consider canceling such a good show? Don’t be dumb. Keep it going!!!!
This series took a few episodes to get into the story line. It’s a great series and the network has a hit on their hands if they give the watchers time to find it. I’m afraid this network has no faith and will once again take the easy way out and just cancel it. The fact is however they don’t understand that by canceling another series without giving it a chance will only show their loyal views never get to like a series because getting hooked on it isn’t worth it because it’s going to be cancelled anyway.
Save the show. It’s great
Sicko storyline… No parent wants to watch it! Ugh! Cancel it!
Jeremy – let me know if the email you got turns out to be correct, I kind of gave up on the show last week-then I read it was being cancelled anyway, WHAT TO DO!!!
What’s wrong with you people who make these decisions? Monitor what your children see for Gods sakes. This is just another example of people wanting others to take care of and direct their children. Grow up!!
It’s to bad that the good series are the ones being cancelled and for what ever reason silly ones stay.
I, had an email to say that There will be a 2nd season of Whispers.
When will they improve the way a show even gets on the air. The billions of wasted dollars in American industry. Somebody must be selling cancellation insurance. Waste Americans time on brain dead show like watch me eat, friends who don’t like each other, cheating neighbors, real American Quality!!!! stop watching networks and watch it change!!!
