One of the earliest casualties of the 2009-10 season, Three Rivers was pulled after eight episodes. There’s now word that the TV show’s coming back but fans shouldn’t get too excited.
The CBS medical drama, which stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard, got off to a slow start in the ratings when it debuted back in October. Viewership dropped as the weeks went on and it very quickly looked like a candidate for early cancellation.
CBS pulled Three Rivers in December and expressed no plans to order any additional episodes. Then, in January, the network officially cancelled the show.
Members of the cast have moved on to other projects and O’Loughlin will be starring in the new Hawaii Five-0 series next fall. Perhaps CBS wants to make sure that viewers don’t forget about O’Loughlin because they’ve now scheduled the final episodes of Three Rivers.
The five unaired episodes of Three Rivers will start to run on Saturday, June 5th, at 8pm. The series finale is scheduled to air on July 3rd.
Interestingly, The CW recently announced plans to run O’Loughlin’s last CBS series, Moonlight, on Thursday nights throughout the summer. They start Thursday, June 3rd.
It’s certainly an odd set of circumstances. The actor just may be the first person to have two cancelled shows running concurrently on different networks.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that the final episodes of Three Rivers will see the light of day?
We really enjoyed this show. It struck home because my husband had a heart transplant 18 years ago. We could really understand what was happening in this show. We hate to see it go.
I am so upset that they are canceling this show. I love the technology this show displays and I love the characters. There are so many directions these characters can go! WTH? Someone needs to read the online info.. People love this show.. It tackles current issues with organ donation and gives a different forum other than the horror stories that we have all heard about the process and selection. Come on people, give us something to chew on when we watch TV, I am personally sick of having to settle on which of the reality drama crap to watch… Read more »
I thought it was an incredible show! I hate to see it cancelled. Hopefully CBS will rethink it and bring it back! GREAT show!
I thought this was a great show. I thought it was good about organ donations to. I really don’t like shows like this but it got my attention.
I kept hoping that CBS would see the light and keep Three Rivers around. The characters were just starting to come into their own and the storylines were always interesting and thought provoking. Seems like if there is no sex then the show doesn’t stand a chance.
Myhusband & I both hope that CBS will change it’s mind agin and bring it back this fall! Love the show
I’m SO disappointed to see yet another one of the great new medical dramas get cut. I really enjoy this show!
Why, Why, Why are all the good intelligent shows being cancelled and the stupid shows like Wipeout and In it to Win it still airing? I loved this show and Miami Medical and now both have been cancelled. I will miss both.
Sorry to see this show cancelled. I learned so much about organ donation from this show. The acting was great and it was a subject people need to be exposed to in this day and age of medicine. I hope they at least have reruns.
What a complete disappointment and dissatisfaction with the new released shows…it’s now just another medical- primetime soap opera. They ruined the show! I’m out!
It is such a shame Three Rivers is canceled. I was so happy when they decided to run the last few epiodes. I have no idea why the network did not push it. The stories and great along with the actors. I am sure it will be replaced by another show that has no substance.
Three Rivers, you will truly be missed
I’m so with you on that Randy!
I really loved the show. Being originally from Pittsburgh helps a bit, of course. But I thought it put a new and more important aspect of modern medicine into the public eye. How many of us have faced the need for transplanted organs? How many potential organ donors would be swayed to arrange to be organ donors because of “Three Rivers”? Conversely, how many potential organ donors will not donate because they don’t realize the humanity involved.
I was so upset with the cancellation of Three Rivers. Upset that the network didn’t at least try to air it on a different night, as the Sunday night football pushed back this show as well as Cold Case into different time slots. Alex, I’ll be following you to your new network!
I think it is a shame that this show has been cancelled. Really quality stories and cast. It really does shead a lot of light on the need for donors. I think the the network chose a poor time slot which didn’t give the show much of a chance. It is a great show.
My whole family loves this show. I think it will do a lot of good in raising awareness for organ donation. I’m glad they are at least showing the unaired episodes. Wish they would make more of it. Great show.
