Tyrant was cancelled after just three seasons on FX, and the reasons behind the shocking cancellation have now been revealed. Bert Salke, the FOX 21 President, spoke about those reasons with The Hollywood Reporter.
Salke said the following:
“We knew after the second year and were really aware that for a show we felt so strongly about — and the fan base felt so strongly about — that the numbers weren’t commensurate with the base for the show. Nobody was more aware than the FX people and John wanted to get in front of it. Chris, Howard and the studio went in with very open eyes and hoping for the best. We were getting behind it the same way we do every year and preparing for any number of outcomes. There were no surprises.”
There is hope that the series will return. Tyrant is being actively shopped to streaming services. It could land on Netflix or Hulu.

Definitely need a few more seasons, not just one more. People don’t get sick of it until at lease 6 or 7. Get somebody working on it!
Yes I love that show. Especially in hulu with no commercials. Please do a season 4 so we can find out what happens.
I check back often to see if there updates on renewing this series. It was truly one of a kind. Told so many stories within one film. Extraordinary actors. Excellent writing. Thoughtful and engaging. Please bring this back.
Tyrant was truly a magnificent show with beautiful settings and stellar actors. I, and some of my friends, have been in mourning since it came off the air.
Yes, yes, yes- the series is riveting. One starts to dig deeper researching Syrian history and it’s conflict- vulnerability is within the strongest of men, vengeance lives in us all, power is no respecter of persons- excellent actors – Directors please give us more
