One of the producers of the new V thinks there’s still a chance that TV show will be renewed for season three. On the show’s official Facebook page, Steve Pearlman wrote: “Despite what you read online, the ratings for V have been OK and the show has a chance of being renewed for a third season.” Is that really true?
For season one, V ended up averaging a 2.25 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 5.7 million average viewers. It was “on the bubble” but ended up being renewed for season two. ABC has a history of taking a chance on struggling freshman shows and decided to bet on this one over lower-rated FlashForward. Sometimes the network’s gambling pays off (Castle) but usually, it doesn’t (Samantha Who?, Better Off Ted, October Road, etc.).
After ABC ordered 13 episodes for season two, the network cut it back to 10 installments. That’s not a good sign but ABC execs supposedly felt they just wouldn’t need as many episodes because of the bevy of original programming they already have. Lots of this season’s new and returning shows haven’t even premiered yet because there’s no room on the schedule.
So far this season, V has been pretty consistent and has averaged a 2.0 in the demo and 6.02 million viewers. While that’s an increase in total viewers, that’s a drop in the key demo which is what really counts. V is currently the second-lowest rated scripted show on the network, just above Detroit 1-8-7 and just below No Ordinary Family.
So, Pearlman is indeed correct that a third season is still possible but, unless the ratings improve, it seems unlikely. ABC gave the series a chance last time and the risk hasn’t paid off for them so far. The ratings have dropped, not improved. If they’re going to take a gamble on a struggling show for next season it would make more sense to try another one.
What do you think? Will the V ratings improve? Will ABC give the series another chance — season three — or will it be cancelled?

I truly enjoy “V” and “Fringe”; two shows that are apparently on the bubble. I certainly hope that they survive for next season.
I have been burned so much in the past by watching shows, investing brain power in the plot and getting emotionally involved. But then they decide to cancel the show and leave everything hanging. I just don’t watch new shows anymore. I catch the syndication. Sure I miss out on the water cooler talk – but it’s much more enjoyable watching in a single stretch without commercials and without 8 months between “seasons”.
This show is terrible.Cancel it.
good show
Keep V, the best show on tv! I am getting tired of investing time into these shows only for cancellation to be threatened as the main plot is developing.
I like the show alot and hope it stays. Hate it when they dump SciFi shows, need more of them on the air…
Keep V, it’s one of the best shows on right now
The money-grubbers don’t really know what they’re doing when it comes to scheduling, that’s for sure.
I find it hard to believe that ABC’s entire Tuesday night lineup is in the ratings cellar. The 3 shows, No Ordinary Family, V, and Detroit 187 are the most enjoyable set of shows being offered. No Ordinary Family is amusing (even if a bit predictable). V is fun, and much better than the original. Detroit 187 is by far the best cop show on the air, with each of characters believable and likeable, and the stories compelling. And yet it is the moronic crap (like Castle) that draws the ratings. I don’t get it! Well, at least The Borgias… Read more »

I agree. I think that these long breaks are one main reason why fans looks track of the sory. I know I did.
KEEP V !!!!! So sick of all the networks gettibg rid of great show. V is a great show one of the best that is on t,v, right now…….we all look soforward to it each week. Please, please, please keep this show on !
V is great and I think if the networks would keep a schedule, more people would watch and continue to watch. When shows go on hiatus for 9 months it makes it difficult to pick back up where they left off. I’m not sure how they figure out who is watching what these days with DVR and TiVo and being able to stream shows online. I do those things because the times usually aren’t convenient and I can’t keep up with when shows are on since they move them around so much.
Well, I’ve read how tv ratings work. Ratings are only figured from a hand full of viewers. Then they use some kind of failed math to TRY and GUESS how many people are watching. The truth is that the networks don’t really know what we’re all watching. That is why so many great shows get cancelled. The ratings system is flawed and needs to be improved drastically. Also, cancelling a show without a proper ending should be illegal.
Cance l it. The show is total crap.
