One of the producers of the new V thinks there’s still a chance that TV show will be renewed for season three. On the show’s official Facebook page, Steve Pearlman wrote: “Despite what you read online, the ratings for V have been OK and the show has a chance of being renewed for a third season.” Is that really true?
For season one, V ended up averaging a 2.25 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 5.7 million average viewers. It was “on the bubble” but ended up being renewed for season two. ABC has a history of taking a chance on struggling freshman shows and decided to bet on this one over lower-rated FlashForward. Sometimes the network’s gambling pays off (Castle) but usually, it doesn’t (Samantha Who?, Better Off Ted, October Road, etc.).
After ABC ordered 13 episodes for season two, the network cut it back to 10 installments. That’s not a good sign but ABC execs supposedly felt they just wouldn’t need as many episodes because of the bevy of original programming they already have. Lots of this season’s new and returning shows haven’t even premiered yet because there’s no room on the schedule.
So far this season, V has been pretty consistent and has averaged a 2.0 in the demo and 6.02 million viewers. While that’s an increase in total viewers, that’s a drop in the key demo which is what really counts. V is currently the second-lowest rated scripted show on the network, just above Detroit 1-8-7 and just below No Ordinary Family.
So, Pearlman is indeed correct that a third season is still possible but, unless the ratings improve, it seems unlikely. ABC gave the series a chance last time and the risk hasn’t paid off for them so far. The ratings have dropped, not improved. If they’re going to take a gamble on a struggling show for next season it would make more sense to try another one.
What do you think? Will the V ratings improve? Will ABC give the series another chance — season three — or will it be cancelled?

Another show bites in to the dust! I hate it every time i like a show they cancel it! I hope this show finish his story. It is very important for the people they follow this show!
HOPE ABC DOES SEASON THREE FOR V AS ITS BY FAR THE BEST THEY HAVE DONE ME AND MISSES HAVE WATCH EVERY EPISODE AND ITS BRILLIANT KEEP IT GOING ABC .
Bring it back I bought season 1 never watched it loved season two bring on season three!!
If they cancel it, they should atleast do a two/3 hr finale
That said its all done on green screen so it cant be that expensive to film
Sure hope they renew this series for a third season. I really liked this series. Watched this series when I was a kid when it was Marc Singer as one of the main characters. C’mon ABC, lets give V another season!!!
Please keep V on for another season, I love this show and so does my wife. This V is picking up where the original left off, and I think that’s awesome. You can’t cancell it now it’s really starting to get goid
How can a network expect a show to gain momentum after just a few episodes in Season 1 and then a long wait until it appeared again for Season 2? Now with only 10 episodes this season judgement again is being made…. A series needs a full season to really get off the ground, not starts and stops with little bits and pieces.
V is the best programme on tv. It would be a huge shame if the programme was cancelled. TV exec’s should stop cancelling fantastic shows and give us the viewers what we want. RENEW v FOR A THIRD SERIES.
This show is finally picking up steam.. Season one should have been more like this one, and they would not have this issue.
Love this show! Please renew for season 3!!! There is nothing like it on TV right now and my older children and I look forward to watching it every Tuesday.
I don’t really care either way. I watch the show as a filler from 7 – 9pm.
I do like no ordinary family and castle. That’s it for what’s on abc for me.
This show has a chance if they stop giving away plots before hand on the internet, to prevent those who write, “this show is so predictable.” Which can lead one to the interpretation that the show is mindlessly simple. A third, or more important fouth season is needed to slowly introduce the “V” empire (homeworld, history, etc …), to balance the earth stage and hopefully newly introduced galaxy stage, that will help broaden the story with a more in-depth study of the aliens and their culture.
I love this show and frankly there isn’t enough good science fiction shows on TV anymore. It seems like the networks don’t give TV shows a chance in todays programming. Personally, I am sick of ABC producing stupid shows that are boring and mindless. If ABC cancels V, then I am done with this network.
Ditto for me! ABC cancels all of it’s good, entertaining and well made shows and leaves on all of the stupid ones, why is that? V is one of the best made shows on TV with a great cast and wonderful acting, too good to be on I guess!
LOVE THIS SHOW! I was very disappointed when FlashForward was cancelled, and I’d hate to see them do the same to V without at least the proper series finale. I don’t remember the original V so I have nothing to compare it to. Yes, it may be predictable at times, but I STILL LOVE IT!
This version of V is really a let down. Its not the worst show I have seen in recent years but its just too hollow and predictable……. The acting is subpar and the characters are so contrived that I find that I just can’t like them…… I think it was awful that they brought Jane Badler to the cast. This version of V really taints the memory of the original…….. its unfortunate to see Diana, who was such an awesome character on the original reduced to……….”this”……… lol……… Personally I wouldn’t be watching the show at all ,but, my dad and… Read more »
