This long-running ABC soap opera revolves around the lives of the residents of the fictional East Coast town of Pine Valley.
The series’ early plotlines focused on rich snob Phoebe Taylor (Ruth Warrick); sensible Dr. Joseph “Joe” Martin (Ray MacDonnell) and his family; and single mother Mona Kane (Frances Heflin) and her prima-donna daughter Erica (Susan Lucci). Lucci and MacDonnell have remained with the program for over 30 years. Erica Kane has become well-known for her many marriages and remains the soap’s trademark character.
Other popular past and present characters include twins Adam and Stuart Chandler (David Canary), Tad Martin (Micheal E. Knight), Ryan Lavery (Cameron Mathison), Palmer Cortlandt (James Mitchell), Julia Santos (Sydney Penny), Jackson Montgomery (Walt Willey), Donna Beck (Francesca Poston, then Candice Earley), and Phil Brent (Richard Hatch, then Nick Benedict). Well-known actors who appeared as regular castmembers include Mischa Barton, Kim Delaney, Josh Duhamel, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lee Meriwether, and Kelly Ripa.

i have been watching this show for over 39 yrs, since the beginning, & tho there have been times when i have felt the writing faltered terribly, i still feel it is the best soap on television & always is at the forefront in terms of relevant social issues. The casting & acting has always been excellent & almost always revolves around the trials & tribulations of everyday life & social issues & not spies or mobsters or end of world events! long may it live!

i think that this show is bogus. they acting is terrible and this is the worst show ever. my grandmother watches this show everyday and it consumes her for an hour everyday when she could be doing something way more productive. there is way too much drama in these soaps and its not even realistic drama! people don’t fight over stupid things and kill eachother over them.

I THINK IT IS ASHAME THAT ABC CANCELLED THE POPULAR ALL MY CHILDREN FOR A STUPID COOKING SHOW CALLED THE STUPID CHEW. I WILL NEVER WATCH ABC AGIAN. IT MAKES NO SENSE THAT THEY CANCELLED ALL MY CHILDREN AND MADE SUSAN LUCCI VERY AGNRY. I AGREE WITH SUSAN. THE STUPID CHEW WILL NOT LAST LONG. ENJOY YOUR SHORT STAY, STUPID CHEW. YOU WON’T BE ON LONG.
