After NBC’s worst season, it’s no surprise that the peacock network is shaking up their 2007-08 schedule. There’s also little surprise about which shows didn’t survive. Here’s what won’t be returning next season:
Andy Barker, P.I. – The Andy Richter comedy series ran for six episodes to poor ratings. NBC put the last two on Saturday night and it seemed like the sitcom was doomed before it began.
The Black Donnellys – The Paul Haggis series was pulled after six episodes and the remaining episodes have been made available on NBC’s site and iTunes.
Crossing Jordan – After six seasons on the air, Jordan has solved her last case. The series finale airs on Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
Grease: You’re The One That I Want – The ratings were a disappointment and seriously, how could they do another season anyway — fire the first years’ winners to make room for the second’s?
Identity – The Penn Jillette-hosted game show about contestants identifying strangers’ hobbies or occupations is finished after 12 episodes.
Kidnapped – NBC’s big serial drama under-performed network expectations and was cancelled after three episodes and pulled from the schedule after five. Luckily for viewers, NBC released the remaining seven episodes online and the series has been released on DVD.
Raines – The quirky Jeff Goldblum detective show ran all seven episodes to poor ratings. It won’t be back.
The Real Wedding Crashers – The reality series that replaced Donnellys was pulled from the schedule after three episodes. NBC may air the remaining episodes during the summer.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip – The much-hyped Aaron Sorkin series didn’t live up to expectations. It will return on May 24th and hopefully NBC will air all six of the remaining episodes. A DVD release is likely.
Thank God You’re Here – The improv sketch show’s ratings were nothing to smile about so it’s been cancelled after seven episodes.
Twenty Good Years – This sitcom starred series veterans John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor, was pulled from the network schedule after just four episodes. It’s doubtful that the remaining episodes will air.
Returning in the fall are: 30 Rock, The Biggest Loser, Dateline, Deal or No Deal, ER, Friday Night Lights (moved to Fridays at 10pm), Heroes, Las Vegas, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: SVU, My Name is Earl, The Office, and Scrubs. Law & Order and Medium (moved to Sunday nights) will return mid-season (January 2008) or earlier.
The Apprentice was left off the Fall schedule but NBC and creator Mark Burnett are still in talks of bringing back the series in some form. Mark Burnett previously pledged to find another home for the reality show if NBC drops it.
The Friday night 8pm timeslot has been designated as “game night” and will consist of rotating reality or games shows. The Bob Saget-hosted series 1 vs. 100 will air for eight weeks initially.
I personally cannot believe that you would cancel a show like Crossing Jordan for a reality show. There are already way too many reality shows, Crossing Jordan would have been great in the 9:00 pm slot on Friday nights. I can assure you I will not be watching NBC on Fridays.
I’m so so sorry to see Raines go. NBC=Idiots
I’m bummed about Crossing Jordan going away and you can see my take at http://mytvmusings.com/2007/05/15/crossing-jordan-series-finale/
stupid for nbc to cancel the apprentice..real stupid move….
Studio 60 and Crossing Jordan are two of the very few shows I actually watched on NBC. Of course those are the ones being cancelled. Both were very well-written and had great casts. I actually dropped CSI:Miami from my list of “must see TV” to watch Studio 60. So I guess I’ll be heading back to CBS on Monday nights in the fall.
Put Raines back on!!!!!
It is sad that “Crossing Jordon” has been cancelled. As a medical professional, I have thoroughly enjoyed this outstanding, well done show with a cast that cannot be surpassed. Jordon is much more interesting than any jail break, lost person or a surviving person in any “alliance.” Excellent shows like Jordon are hard to find these days.
There seems to be a pattern here. No wants Raines to go (at least on this board). I said it when it aired, this is just too smart and too original for American audiences and no network will give it a chance to grow an audience. But they’ll give us even more reality tv and game shows. yay (sarcasm). sorry for the tone. this bums me out
I can’t believe that Crossing Jordan won’t be back on! That is a great show. Also Raines was very good but never given a chance!!
Very sorry to hear about cancellation of Crossing Jordan. My family has enjoyed every episode and will miss the show.
Raines is a tragedy. Intellectual intelligent programming like that is all to rare nowadays. It took what was becoming a cliche and made it original. Studio 60 is an incredibly well done show with talent to spare. If it hasn’t found its audience on broadcast TV, it will later on its own. Andy Barker never had a chance… not because it wasn’t good, but because other than making it to broadcast, it was never given one. Kidnapped was one of the best made serial crime shows in years. Almost every performance was so good it changes your opinions of the… Read more »
you will give us another sappy reality show about teenagers but cancel Raines….moronic actions seems to be the status quo of NBC….
What a shame NBC has cancelled “pure” entertainment and brilliant writing, acting and producing in the Studio 60 show. Maybe Aaron & Thomas need to distance themselves from NBC, since it seems to be self-destructing, and approach HBO with their creativity and brilliance. The show will be sorely missed. It was the best thing out there in so-called “reality T.V. land”.
I’m sad to see Raines go. It was one of the few shows with a brain on television these days.
I will miss Raines. I really thought it was one of the best shows on TV. The rest of the drops I completely agree with. But I would have dropped several of their keepers too.
