After NBC’s worst season, it’s no surprise that the peacock network is shaking up their 2007-08 schedule. There’s also little surprise about which shows didn’t survive. Here’s what won’t be returning next season:
Andy Barker, P.I. – The Andy Richter comedy series ran for six episodes to poor ratings. NBC put the last two on Saturday night and it seemed like the sitcom was doomed before it began.
The Black Donnellys – The Paul Haggis series was pulled after six episodes and the remaining episodes have been made available on NBC’s site and iTunes.
Crossing Jordan – After six seasons on the air, Jordan has solved her last case. The series finale airs on Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
Grease: You’re The One That I Want – The ratings were a disappointment and seriously, how could they do another season anyway — fire the first years’ winners to make room for the second’s?
Identity – The Penn Jillette-hosted game show about contestants identifying strangers’ hobbies or occupations is finished after 12 episodes.
Kidnapped – NBC’s big serial drama under-performed network expectations and was cancelled after three episodes and pulled from the schedule after five. Luckily for viewers, NBC released the remaining seven episodes online and the series has been released on DVD.
Raines – The quirky Jeff Goldblum detective show ran all seven episodes to poor ratings. It won’t be back.
The Real Wedding Crashers – The reality series that replaced Donnellys was pulled from the schedule after three episodes. NBC may air the remaining episodes during the summer.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip – The much-hyped Aaron Sorkin series didn’t live up to expectations. It will return on May 24th and hopefully NBC will air all six of the remaining episodes. A DVD release is likely.
Thank God You’re Here – The improv sketch show’s ratings were nothing to smile about so it’s been cancelled after seven episodes.
Twenty Good Years – This sitcom starred series veterans John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor, was pulled from the network schedule after just four episodes. It’s doubtful that the remaining episodes will air.
Returning in the fall are: 30 Rock, The Biggest Loser, Dateline, Deal or No Deal, ER, Friday Night Lights (moved to Fridays at 10pm), Heroes, Las Vegas, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: SVU, My Name is Earl, The Office, and Scrubs. Law & Order and Medium (moved to Sunday nights) will return mid-season (January 2008) or earlier.
The Apprentice was left off the Fall schedule but NBC and creator Mark Burnett are still in talks of bringing back the series in some form. Mark Burnett previously pledged to find another home for the reality show if NBC drops it.
The Friday night 8pm timeslot has been designated as “game night” and will consist of rotating reality or games shows. The Bob Saget-hosted series 1 vs. 100 will air for eight weeks initially.
2nd series of Grease, Any Dream Will Do, well the UK show the format came from, (how to solve a problem like Mariah) came back for a 2nd run, this time called “Any Dream Will Do” and the search for a new Joseph, from Joseph & his technocloured dreamcoat.
I am sad that Crossing Jordan was cancelled.
🙁
I can’t believe RAINES is cancelled. That was one of the best shows out in years -Goldblum is brilliant and so was the show. My whole family watched it faithfully.
Add my friends and myself to the long list of viewers extremely sorry to see Crossing Jordan cancelled. What is wrong with you people? More lost viewers!!!
I can’t believe Raines is cancelled!!! I watched every episode on NBC’s website and my husband and I fell in love with it!! I am so disappointed in NBC, I know I will not be watching it again next fall unless they bring it back!
Raines is a very good show. Forget the poor ratings, common sense should have been enough to keep it on the air.
NBC I have to say you have sunk to your lowest point…first with the nightly news and now cancelling three excellent shows(Studio 60, Crossing Jordan, Thank God, You’re Here!) I always looked forward to those shows being on and taking me out of my stress-filled life for an hour. Those shows were great entertainment for everyone and now you’ve replaced them with mindless dribble! I agree with one past comment made that these shows find new homes on different networks. I for one, will never watch NBC again! I promise you that! Oh, by the way, enough already with ER…it’s… Read more »
SHAME ON NBC. RAINES WAS A GREAT SHOW. ANDY RICHTER’S SHOW WAS HILARIOUS. NBC MUST ENJOY COMING IN LAST. ITS PRESENT LINEUP IS AWFUL!
Every show I watch on NBC gets canceled: Raines, Crossing Jordan, Kidnapped, Surface & The Black Donnelleys. Other than Heroes I won’t watch NBC. I hate getting into a show and then watch it get canceled. I think the head honcho’s at NBC & The New York Islanders are working together. They just don’t know what their doing.
I really enjoyed The Black Donnellys. I cannot believe that it was cancelled after only six episodes. It was not even given a chance.
I couldn’t believe that Raines and Crossing Jordan have been cancelled. I never even heard any news about either show being cancelled. It seems that all of the good shows are being replaced by more mindless, reality crap. I think I’m going to give up on television.
I watched all 7 episodes of Raines and the more I watched the more I liked. Raines was one of the reasons I watched NBC this year. I think I’ll stick with CBS and hope that maybe CBS will pick up Raines.
So, Crossing Jordon, Raines and one of the funniest and most original shows I’ve ever seen, Thank God You’re Here, are all cancelled….well NBC may as well shut down too…only thing left that my family will be watching is ER and Medium, (if they aren’t on the chopping board too) but maybe they could switch to a better network. I don’t know who does the ratings for NBC but seems like there’s a lot of people here that aren’t happy with the cancellations. So much for ratings..huh! Personaly, I can’t STAND game shows and reality shows. There’s not much left… Read more »
