Deadline reports that ABC has ordered some extra episodes of several — but not all — of their current TV shows.
Grey’s Anatomy, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, and Black-ish will all now have 24 episodes this time around. Castle and Once Upon a Time will have 23 installments each.
Resurrection, which is way down season-to-season, will have just one additional episode, bringing its season total to 14 episodes. It will be replaced mid-season by American Crime (which will have 11 installments).
Scandal, because of its dense storylines, will stay at 22 episodes this season. How to Get Away with Murder will stay at 15 installments because of star Viola Davis’ contract.
Nashville and Revenge, which continue to struggle in the ratings, haven’t been asked for any additional episodes. Newbie shows Forever, Selfie and Manhattan Love Story are tanking so it seems likely that they won’t be asked for more than 13 installments apiece and will be cancelled after that.
UPDATE: ABC later decided not to order an additional episode of Resurrection after all, leaving the ratings-challenged show at 13 episodes.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that these shows will have more episodes this season? Which are your favorites?

Selfie, Manhattan Love Story and Forever are most likely going to get canceled soon. Cristela is still not my cup of tea. I’ll be disappointed if Black-ish gets renewed for a second season. Resurrection is destined to be ON THE BUBBLE as well as Nashville and Revenge. Hope Agents of SHIELD stays even though ratings hasn’t been the same since its rookie season and I have a feeling that Grey’s Anatomy should get renewed for a 12th and final season.
Many ABC shows are low rated due to Boycott ABC since 2011, if you want your beloved primetime shows to survive, contact ABC and let them know they need to cancel their daytime disaster The Chew, millions are boycotting ABC and have been since the wrongfull cancellations of their two legendary soap operas All My Children and One Life to Live. Many primetime shows have came and vanished due to this Boycott, and many more will continue to do so, the Boycott isn’t going anywhere until The Chew is removed, as long as The Chew remains, your favorite shows will… Read more »
I agree, I refuse to watch ABC except GH, GH is the best show on ABC, even better than all their boring crap on primetime. I agree, how is Nashville still on? ABC needs to cancel that fake soap opera. The Chew which I call Spew, is the worst Daytime show ever. I am a Boycotter as well as my 9 friends, we all refuse to watch ABC.
I love Forever. I hope they give it a chance before they cancel it.
There used to be a time when broadcasting stations believed in series and would keep it around for a while before bombing it out because of low ratings. Some shows that come in on that would be Cheers and I also believe Mash and All in the Family. I find myself watching less TV because of broadcasting stations don’t want to put in the dedication that it takes to see if something really works.
Forever order a ton of those . Selfie not a good show at all.
MaryAnn, well said! I, too, am a Forever fan. Am hoping it isn’t cancelled.
Georgia, I agree w/you and MaryAnn. FOREVER & Revenge are the only 2 shows I watch on ABC and would love to see a day &/or time change for it. They gave Blackish a juicy slot and now they’re saying it’s a hit? Give me a break!
No I want more revenge episodes
Please keep Castle and Forever, they are the only shows that I watch on abc.
Lance, I’m afraid our requests are falling on DEAF EARS ! They’ve all but cancelled our wonderful “Forever” and I think that SUCKS !! Why don’t they try putting their “Blackish” and “How to get away with murder” in that Tuesday 10 o’clock time slot and see how they do then? If they KNOW that day and time has ALWAYS had a bad following, why don’t they move “Forever” to a better one and see if it improves? I am so upset that they say “Forever” is ‘tanking’ and is sure to be cancelled shortly. There are so many of… Read more »
Pls keep forever and how to get away with murder…they are great shows
Update: “Cristela” is hilarious and I actually found the latest “Selfie” episode amusing…
I am really resentful of the fact that the networks (all of them), are only concerned with the opinions of 18 to 49 year olds. My 30 and 34 year olds watch very little television at all. Between working and family life, they’re exhausted and go to bed early. My husband and I on the other hand, watch hours of tv every week. The networks really need to reconsider they’re advertising and realize that’s it’s the over 45 crowd that are watching the most tv. We have more time to watch our favourite shows…like Forever
Sandra, I could not agree more with you! We also have children in that “magic” 18-49 category! They are both busy working all day, tending to children at night with sports, etc…they might watch something Saturday night, but it’s a recorded show. So guess what, they’re not seeing ANY commercials! Forever is wonderful and I watch it in its time slot and get to see all the commercials…
Nashville is struggling? I think it’s been good from day one and is only getting better! letting this one go would be a mistake! i’m also keeping my fingers crossed about the show forever but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets the ax.
Please, please keep castle and forever. I don’t care about rest of your line-up.
Because of Hulu, I’ve watched practically every ABC show, but, of course there’s only so much time in the day… I missed out on several episodes of “Resurrection” and “Once upon a Time” that I can’t even catch up… “Revenge” has been Soooo much better this season. I caught the first episode of “Forever” , I meant to go back, hopefully I still have time. “Selfie” and “Manhattan Love Story” should have their own audience, but, are pretty bad; I watch them as I’m doing something else… “General Hospital”, “The Middle”, “The Goldbergs”, “Modern Family” and “Scandal” are my staples!!!… Read more »
