As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
To bad, was very entertaining! Now we will never know HOW THE STORY ENDS!
Sorry that it was cancelled as well. However, from a story line made for viewing some may not know how the story end from that perspective. But those whose have read the Bible knows how the story end as His has provide that in His Word through the Book of Revelation.
i want season 2,3 4,5 all the books to be shown on Netflix.
Read the Bible and you will be informed!….Enjoy!
I would love to see a 2nd, 3rd, 4th season… on and on. But, you CAN know how the story ends even if another season is never completed. Just pick up the bible and read the New Testament
Whatever it takes, I’ll watch it.
Sad to see one of the greatest stories ever told be cancelled in just one season. The start of the Messianic belief which started Christianity….hope they continue the story of Cornelius. The problem is that this is probably way over the head of the average Christian. Mark Burnett is superb as always!
The cast was great. Jesus was awesome. the end of season1 left my mouth open. I’ll pray to god it is aired again because i watched it on Netflix and what a great show.
I stopped watching TV long ago but this was the best thing to happen to TV!!!!!
I loved this show. It definitely was one of the highlights of my week. Nbc should give it a second chance. They might find out what it means to have some faith. Most TV is so dissapointing, this was a pleasant change. If Americans TV rating only come from sex and violence then Americans need to be re educated. Many of our ancestors spent their evenings listening to stories from the bible, it was the original family entertainment. Kids learned about, love , honor, respect, and putting others above themselves. Now they spend so much time watching produced fake lives of… Read more »
Amen!!!
Honestly curious, but isn’t there a ton of sex and violence in the bible?
No. Please don’t cancel A.D. We watched every single Sunday night, and will continue to do so. We need variety on TV. Hardly watch anything anymore….and we watched this like we do Downton Abbey.
What America really needs to watch is cancelled. How sad this is. This is because there are to few believers today and the Evil One likes to steer them towards him.
Amen I agree
Ok what’s is wrong with this world the only show about the lord you cancelled but yet lots of rapes murders and shows like that on tv,, the thing about the bible continues its a well mad series to ,I jus don’t knows what nbc or abc wants but u guys are wrong to sto this series I guess living in sin is the best thing to do no good TV series about the lord aka god is on the air no wonder people keep doing fucked up thing no sprit au up lifting shows on tv to watch ahahah
NOOOOOO!!!! NBC PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reconsider! I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! YOU SHOULDN’T cancel it! Especially since it was left on such a cliffhanger on the last episode! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RECONSIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank You!
You should send your message to NBC. Their decision.
as i understand this it will be online. so that’s a non starter for the very people who watched the show. the way it ended sucked. so yeah i’m pissed.
NBC should reconsider this move. I will definitely watch any and all continuing episodes.
Still mad about why people continue to be “ignored” by watching shows on NBC instead of watching some other network shows on ABC, CBS, Fox and even The CW. 🙁
If this will be on a cable channel I get I will certainly watch it!
Oh NOOOOOOOOOO!!! Please reconsider! It made my Sunday evening!
First the gays can marry, and now no more bible myths on the tube. Religious right Wingers heads are totally exploded……..
Shhh…if you listen reeeal carefully, you can hear them…
You are correct. The world is going to pot. As fortold. To the producers, KEEP GOING. Do you know how nice it is to go to bed on Sunday night with your mind on God and the saving grace the Paul was about to tell the world about. No wonder NBC cancelled it.
Tundra, this was not a MYTH….. I’m a religious person, but found this incredibly boring. The actor who played Peter was the worst. I was hoping for much, much better. Once Jesus died it seemed to get all muddled. And why show this AFTER Easter?
Religions are classified as mythology because they are myths created by men.
