THR reports CBS has cast Elliot Knight as a series regular in its new American Gothic TV series, coming this summer. As pictured above, Knight played the Arthurian legend’s Merlin, in ABC‘s Once Upon a Time season 5A, starring Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Lana Parrilla, Colin O’Donoghue, Robert Carlyle, and Emilie de Ravin.
In American Gothic, Knight will play a police officer named Brady. The cast of American Gothic also includes: Megan Ketch, Justin Chatwin, Antony Starr, Juliet Rylance, Stephanie Leonidas, Gabriel Bateman, and Virginia Madsen.
In an exclusive, The Hollywood Reporter describes Knight’s character:
Knight will play Brady. Solid and honest with a touch of cynicism, he is happily married to Tessa (Megan Ketch), the youngest daughter of a prominent Boston family. A cop who’s just been promoted to detective, Brady is starting work on a cold case that’s suddenly had new evidence brought to light. A good man and a good detective, Brady is puzzled and a bit alarmed when Tessa seems to have some important information that she feels she can’t tell him.
Here is how CBS explains the upcoming series:
AMERICAN GOTHIC centers on a prominent Boston family that is attempting to redefine itself in the wake of a chilling discovery that links their recently deceased patriarch to a string of murders spanning decades, amid the mounting suspicion that one of them may have been his accomplice.
Chatwin and Ketch were cast as Cam and Tessa, back in early December. Read the network description of their characters:
Chatwin will play Cam, a sensitive, introspective artist and recovering drug addict who begins to realize that his 8-year-old son has a serious, terrifying problem – and ultimately seeks comfort in the arms of his manipulative but magnetic ex-wife, a fellow addict.
Ketch will play Tessa, a bright, nurturing public school teacher who soon finds herself deeply conflicted about how to handle a chilling discovery linked to her family.
Chatwin’s TV show credits include Shameless, Orphan Black and guest appearances on shows, including Weeds and Lost.
TV fans will remember Ketch from recurring roles in Under the Dome, The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, and Jane the Virgin.
What do you think? Do you like the sound of the upcoming American Gothic TV show? How do you like the cast so far? Do you plan to check it out on CBS, this summer?
I was interested when I thought it was going to be a remark of the original American Gothic however after reading about it I have no interest unless night has taken a lot of acting class since his time on Once Upon a Time.
Is this related to/a remake of the 1990s series, “American Gothic” with Gary Cole and Paige Turco?

I don’t think so, Kristin. At least I haven’t seen that 1995 series mentioned in any of the press releases. Here’s a link to a story on when CBS first ordered the series. There is a press release within it:
