Could Kelly Clarkson be returning to American Idol? TV Guide reports ABC wants the singer for their upcoming reboot of the popular singing series.
This week, ABC announced they are officially reviving American Idol for a new season. Producers of the show have been trying to get the series back on the air ever since it ended on FOX last year after a 15-season run. Previously, NBC was in talks to reboot the show but a deal didn’t work out.
Apparently, ABC is interested in bringing Kelly Clarkson back to American Idol as a judge. The singer won season one of the series back in 2002. Clarkson is reportedly trying to clear her schedule, but the singer has not publicly responded to the report.
ABC’s American Idol reboot is set to premiere during the 2017-2018 season. According to Variety, the network has committed to about 40 hours of programming for the new season. That’s a lot of schedule to clear.

definitely get Kelly Clarkson i stopped watching Idol once judges started changing but if KELLY is a judge i will watch again i like her alot she is the reason i watched idol the first year
I agree, Kelly Clarkson would be great but if ABC really wants this to work coming out of the gate, I think they need to bring back JLo, Harry Connick Jr. And Keith Urban. They have great chemistry and are by far the best judges ever. It was so refreshing to have Judges who were actually a pleasure to watch, listen to and learn from. Looking forward to watching American Idol again.
Kelly would be great, Keith is great guitarist & musician, as is Brad Paisley, either would fit fine. Please no diva chicks. I liked Shania, Shakira, & Celine for female judges too. Get some new blood.
Kelly would be great! I’d love to see JLo, Keith & Harry back as well. They were the best out of all the judges. Their chemistry together was a pleasant change from past judges. Plus they’re kinder. They didn’t tear people down. Kelly would be a nice addition since she’s been there, done that. Other females to consider are Miranda, Shania, Shakira & Celine. Other males to consider are Usher & Pharrell.
