Do you watch Better Call Saul? Season three ends tonight, June 19th, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Do you think AMC should renew the TV series? Would you watch a fourth season?
A prequel to Breaking Bad, the comedy-drama follows Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), a down-on-his-luck lawyer trying to negotiate the ethical dilemmas of the legal world, emerge from his older brother’s shadow, and make a name for himself. The cast also includes Jonathan Banks, Michael McKean, Patrick Fabian, Rhea Seehorn, Michael Mando, and Giancarlo Esposito.
For a cable network like AMC, Better Call Saul has been performing decently in the ratings. So far, season three is averaging a 0.58 rating in the 18-49 demo and 1.621 million viewers. And while those numbers mark a near 30% decrease from season two’s ratings, the show is one of AMC’s better rated shows and still earns significant critical acclaim.
But does this mean AMC will renew Better Call Saul for a fourth season? Earlier, co-creator Peter Gould sounded optimistic about season four:
They should always be worried in television… AMC and Sony have been very good to us. I believe they will continue to be, but it’s show business. There’s nothing that’s certain. You asked me how many seasons we have left; hopefully, it’s a creative decision to end the show, and not an economic one. So I don’t want to take anything for granted. I just feel lucky that we’ve done three seasons. I sure hope we get to do more.”
However, Gould also said that he thinks the series does have a limit:
I will say I think this show has a definite limit to it. It’s a story with a beginning and a middle and a definite end. I have to say, I would rather have it end too soon than go on too long. It’s the old showbiz adage: “Leave them wanting more.” I would rather have people wish there had been more seasons than them going, “Oh, is that still on?””
In a recent interview with TVInsider, star Patrick Fabian did tease closure for the season three finale of Better Call Saul:
I will say that there’s a definite resolution, without a doubt, with what goes on in HHM. There’s no doubt about that. I can tell you that Kim and Howard get married in a crazy season three finale of Better Call Saul. You can print that.[Laughs]”
Even with closure, do you still want another season of Better Call Saul or, should the series be cancelled instead? Tell us what you think.
6/27/17 update: Better Call Saul has been renewed for a fourth season. Details here.
Better Call Saul; Season Four is a must. Great show, please keep it going.
Nah. It’s kind of boring, the writers/producers are tying to milk the audience like they did with B. bad, but this time it’s not working. I hate being milked; like I stopped watching The Sopranos, which made me start thinking about how little there was to the show, and how they would treat us like milch cows, always coming back after 1.5 years or 2 years waiting like cud-chewing bovines which most of the audience are.
I love this show. Will definitely watch.
This is one of the best shows on TV! I will keep watching it until it’s over! I record it every season and keep it, and still watch it over and over throughout the year until the next season comes! It’s a badass show! You can’t cancel it! Please please please please please!
Serious fans like me can’t live without it. The creatives are the best in the business. The incredible writing team are weaving a mesmerizing tapestry with threads they spun in Breaking Bad. Please give Vince and Peter a blank check on the finale date! And some Emmys.
This is a great series. If you were a fan of Breaking Bad, and who wasn’t, this series explains some of our favorite characters. It is great to see Jimmy transform into Saul. It has also been interesting to see Mike’s story. Both characters have been created and well written for this series. I will continue to watch and have encouraged numerous friends to watch the show.
Keep it going. Best on Netflix.
I think it’s a brilliantly crafted show and assuming that it maintains its quality I will watch it as long as it’s available.
I hope it’s renewed for many seasons to come! I love the show and the characters, especially Saul.
It will be renewed. Everyone just chill out.
Temporarily homebound after a serious accident, I watch a lot of TV. Better Call Saul is My top number one favorite of about a dozen excellent current offerings. Fantastic character development, great writing, skillful performances, deep insight and fearless story lines. I want more. Much more. Unless it’s a car, I’ll buy whatever product supports the continuation of BCS. Make it happen. Please!
It’s one of the best written, acted & directed series on TV. For those reasons alone I can see why it would not be ‘popular’. Only insipid, mindless fare has a chance of success in today’s television market. What a sad comment on the mentality and discernment of our society, and the greed of the studios.
I can’t wait to binge watch season 3 on Netflix. Please give us season 4!
Once Bob Odenkirk stuck his face on the political ads to sway electoral college votes away from Trump, I stopped watching.
Rob, that’s so silly. Why deprive yourself of something you enjoy because one of the actors doesn’t agree 1000% with your politics? Just enjoy the show; it’s entertainment not politics.
Yes. I love the show
