What can you expect from The Blacklist: Redemption? In an interview with TVLine, star Ryan Eggold recently revealed some details about the NBC spin-off series.
Earlier, we reported NBC has ordered a Blacklist spin-off featuring Eggold’s character, Tom Keen, and Famke Janssen’s Susan Hargrave. Season three of The Blacklist ended last night.
In the interview, Eggold said the spin-off has been in the works for a long time:
You know, this Tom Keen spin-off thing was a whisper I heard a long time ago. I want to say end of Season 1 or beginning of Season 2 — I mean, a long time ago. And then it never really happened, so I just thought it was a rumor or a desire without anything behind it. And then about halfway through Season 3, it started to get very real. They started to say, “Let’s get a script, and let’s get serious about it.” And suddenly, there were ideas happening and casting decisions. And then I got the script, and I’ve really been pleasantly surprised at every turn.”
He revealed the series will have a political bent:
We’re going to get into this political bent. Scottie’s hiring spies like myself to influence governments, and [there are] empires rising and falling and the behind-the-scenes of that. I think that’s really timely, with Bernie Sanders and the concentration of wealth at the top, and corporations having all the power and influence on politics. If we get into a dramatized version of that world, where we are spies operating with those 1-percenters, that’s a really fun world that people want to see right now.”
Eggold also said Tom Keen will appear in season four of The Blacklist:
Yeah, Tom will definitely be in a number of the beginning episodes — or so I’m told — in Season 4. It will partly be to send us down the trajectory of this new series, and for the characters, we’ll find out what happens between Tom and Liz and what happens with this baby girl they both share. What is the future of that? We’re going to deal with that in the beginning of Season 4 and then make our way to a brand-new series.”
What do you think? Do you watch The Blacklist? Will you watch the spin-off series?
It sounds interesting I’ll check it out. I read this article to find out more about Elizabeth Keene’s character. Not a fan of Famke Jansen but she surprised me and has done alright so far.
I won’t watch the spin-off. Period. You can love a character more than the others, but you at least it should be make sense. Story without some common sense in it is just an illusion for me. What’s the point if we cannot learn something from it? I know it’s only entertainment, but if it just out of character like season 3b of the blacklist, then my interest is slowly degraded. Lack of continuity, consistency, and direction…. I don’t know it’s just like many twists but without clear point in the future. Sorry, I rant. I can’t help my self.
I absolutely cannot stand Keen so there was no way that I will ever give this guy a chance. However if we will eventually have less keen on Blacklist I will consider it a win.
Like them very much on Blacklist but am not interested in a spinoff.
I am an avid fan of “The Blacklist” and I am also anxious for a spin-off. However I don’t understand why you would make the show political and (from what it sounds like) make it about the left’s political backing. You are automatically turning off 1/2 of your fans. I DO understand that this is an NBC show but can you try to make it apolitical or at least not so overt as to have people not watch it.
I agree, not a fan of shows that have an underlying political agenda no matter which way it leans.
I don’t watch ANYTHING or ANYONE that comes out as leftist. My TV, my choice. They may have already killed any interest I have in this show.
