Who is safe from the brain-eating bugs on BrainDead? Recently, creators Robert and Michelle King spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the future of the new CBS series.
The political dramedy follows Laurel (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a young Washington DC staffer who notices something strange going on with the politicians on Capitol Hill. The cast also includes Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, and Danny Pino.
[SPOILER ALERT] After the premiere revealed that bugs were eating the brains of various politicians, Robert King told THR that at least one main character may be safe from the parasites:
Laurel is in danger of dying and not being in season two, but we would never do that to Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Some people die from it. Some people who resist, their brain explodes. Usually either your brain is weak enough that you accept it and you’re taken over, or if you resist too much — boom!”
And where exactly do these bugs come from? Winstead said that’s a mysterious the show will continue to explore:
Laurel is challenged in just about every possible way throughout the season — politically, personally, and ways beyond her comprehension. It’s plotted out in a slow burn of trying to figure out what these bugs are, where they come from, and what they do to people. There’s a lot of different conspiracy theories abound before the truth comes out.”
What do you think? Did you watch the premiere of BrainDead? Will you continue to watch the series?
I have enjoyed this show more than anything else since Breaking Bad or Downton Abby. It always has me on the edge of my seat. Extremely clever writing and FUNNY! And I love, love, love the romance.
This show should definitely be renewed. My husband and I are both really enjoying it!
This show is so clever and different. There has never been another show that includes politics, sci-fi and romance. Also, Tony Shalube really shows his acting range. It should definitely get renewed.!
I love the show and will continue to watch if it returns.
Love the show! Don’t cancel!
Superb series hilarious, politically amusing and the slight similarities to the Body Snatchers film wonderful. Please don’t cancel another really great show. Best I’ve seen in awhile.
RENEW, RENEW, RENEW!!!
Best Show Ever on CBS
Braindead is best series ever. I seldom watch thrillers but I am hooked on Braindead. GREAT ENTERTAINMENT.
I found BrainDead at mid season and love it. Renew it and cancel 2Broke Girls and Big Brother
I love BrainDead! My favorite show! Tony Shalaub is such a delight, we need him back on TV and this is a perfect character for him. Please don’t cancel. You need to give the show a chance to catch on and for people to discover it. Just think about whichever station cancelled Cagney and Lacey. Big mistake and I think BrainDead has the same potential of success. Sure is better than 2 Broke Girls, Big Brother and Amazing Race! Let us just have one decent show on CBS.
I love this show!
Karen: Don’t mess with CBS and their 8 min. of commercials; they’ll just bump it up to 9 knowing they’ve got us hooked. Surprising that the Big Bank isn’t 10-10-10 already with the middle 10 being actual show…
If you want to keep the show, let CBS know, go to their feedback site http://audienceservices.cbs.com/feedback/feedback.htm and let them know. I love this show and hope they don’t cancel it
Thanks for the link!
Smart, witty, scary and sometimes disturbing (i.e. Lauren taken in for “questioning” by the FBI….) sci-fi political comedy thriller, what a great combo! Sometimes absolutely hilarious! I never miss it, even if have to tape it. My only complaint is with CBS. Do they have to show 8 commercials in a row and then 5 minutes later 8 more?! Hard to follow the story with so much commercial time, it’s like they are torpedoing their own show! Btw I think Tony Shaloub is great in this! He’s funny and terrifying at the same time
I love this show! It’s fresh, funny, wonderfully satirical and has characters I really enjoy (even if some of them are satirical “types”, more than dimensional characters). I think of it as “poli-sci-fi zombie apocalypse meets Washington”. And unfortunately, since I love it so much, I’m afraid it will be canceled. That would be such a shame! Given half a chance, the show provides a wonderful anodyne for the real political chaos we’ve been seeing for too long. And if you have any over the top Tea Party or Bernie or Bust friends on Facebook, you’ll see that “BrainDead” isn’t… Read more »
