What a different a day or two can make. After cancelling Breaking In late on Tuesday night, FOX is reportedly reconsidering the decision.
FOX is in talks with Sony Pictures TV (the show’s studio) to find a way to possibly bring it back for a second season. No decision is expected to be made until after next week’s upfronts.
Breaking In debuted in early April to a healthy 3.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.82 million total viewers. With the exception of the fact that it lost a large percentage of the American Idol lead-in, that looked very good. The following week, the series fell 26% to a 2.6 rating and 7.79 million viewers.
Ratings fell a bit after that but seem to have evened off at a 2.4 rating. It’s the sixth highest-rated scripted series currently on the network and outperforms the network’s other two live-action comedies. Of course, it also has the best lead-in audience on television.
If Breaking In does get a renewal, this will be the second time that the Christian Slater comedy has cheated death. FOX initially passed on the Breaking In pilot last year but execs changed their minds and gave it a greenlight later on.
What do you think? Does Breaking In deserve a second season to prove itself?

“Breaking In” is the best new US comedy in a long time and certain to gain a solid fan base if it’s given a little more time. The cast and the chemistry among them is great as is the writing – especially the first episode. Whilst 30 min seems to be the comedy standard, I believe 45 or 60 min would allow for a better story development. Unfortunately FOX is a scrupulous network that only looks for the advertising dollar and has neither artistic integrity nor any sense of responsibility. A boycott might teach them a lesson but will never… Read more »
please keep this show darn it….along with Lie To Me and Chicago Code it’s actually mentally and emotionally stimulating as opposed to some of the other crap on television. i wish they would just give shows enough longevity to breathe and grow, like we do with them……ugh.
PLEASE keep Breaking In. Come on, really, it’s barely been on and it’s great so far. STOP wasting your advertising dollars on shows that people are going to watch ANYWAY and put them to better use promoting shows like this. AND HUMAN TARGET!!!!!!!
Please bring that back as well!
Keep it! Not only is it funny but it’s also exciting, this show is way better than a lot of other shows that have lasted for several seasons, at least give it a chance and renew it for season two!
This show should be 1hr and picked up for 2 seasons at least.Fox really need a wake up call they cancelled too many good shows this year already.
Keep it! This show is laugh out loud funny. I love Christian Slater and think the cast had good chemistry. Side note, I hate American Idol so it had no basis on my tuning in for Breaking In. I watched solely because of Slater and that it’s a Happy Madison production. Please keep it! I’m tired of good shows getting canceled.
This is a very well done show that needs time to grow a larger following. The shows writing needs to be racier like the first episode. They need to be going on really more interesting jobs as of the 2-5 episodes really. The more intense this show can get the better it will be. Fox good choice on keeping this concidering the american Idol ballon could pop at any time. This is the case when people start to realize watching horrible singers get made fun of is only entertaining for soo long. People dont watch that show for the good… Read more »
This is the ONLY show on TV that makes me laugh out loud. I hope they keep this riot of a show.
KEEP IT! There is nothing smart on tv anymore since Frasier left.
They ought to pair it with Raising Hope. It’s a really fun and quirky show that needs time to find its footing and grow.
Giving this show a second chance would be an excellent decision. Sure, it has a few kinks with story plots but the comedic talent is there. I, for one, am a big Bret Harrison fan (Reaper, Grounded For Life, and yes, even The Loop). The man’s funny!
Please please please please keep it!
omg, theyre ganna save this piece of crap and still axe traffic light????????????? they need someone at fox who actually understands what a good comedy is. hey, at least breaking in doesnt have a laugh track and michael rosenbaum to bring a few laughs *sighs*
Traffic Light wasn’t that great, as much of a fan of Liza Lapira (the best part of Traffic Light) as I am. Even though Breaking In isn’t that funny (most of the time), I’ve grown to like coming back to watch it week after week to see what they’re up to now, heh.
I hope this works out as this is a really inventive and fun show and the cast is terrific. Given some of the drivel that gets renewed by Fox I get tired of seeing good shows get the axe. I’d also like to see them expand each episode to an hour long while they’re at it.
Keep it FOX stop being morons you have a great show here with a great cast.I love this show a lot.Instead of just being a half hour they should make it a hour much better and longer for the story. Also Fox since you cancel shows like there no tomorrow just a tip for you guys.Look around at shows that are getting cancelled and pick them up for you guys.Because some of them are not that bad.But bring this show back please. Can we bring back 24 and then this after it man what a great 2 hours that would be 🙂
