Self-help author Tony Robbins has moved from infomercials to primetime. Are his series’ ratings positive enough for the TV show to stick around?
In Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, the host helps families overcome tough life challenges so that they can heal, “break through,” and reach their full potential. Last night’s installment centers around Frank and Kristen Alioto, a California couple. At their wedding reception, he broke his neck in a swimming accident and was left a paraplegic.
While Robbins was able to help them, the ratings for the premiere were anything but positive. The first episode attracted a meager 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 3.13 million viewers (per the overnights). Those numbers put the program in fourth place for the timeslot in both categories. What’s more, viewership fell between the first and second half hours, a sign that those viewers probably won’t be back next week.
NBC commissioned six episodes of this series. With numbers like these, they surely won’t be ordering any more and it’s looking unlikely that the network will even end up airing all that they already have.
What do you think? Is Breakthrough with Tony Robbins worth watching or would you just cancel it now? Cancel or keep it?

PLEASE keep it on!! A friend and I just found it by accident last week, so have just been able to watch 2 episodes. I have never seen an advertisement for it. I have been a fan of Tony Robbins for well over 20 years. If ever the time was right for something uplifting and inspirational to be on television, it is NOW. I for one will keep watching as long as it is on the air. I can not stand the usual reality show fare – I find it disgusting and will not ever watch that type of show.… Read more »
Definitely keep the show. I loved how Tony challenged these people to help themselves. He helps people be the best they can be.
I believe this show shoud continue bening made. Their is something so motivating and wonderful in the way Tony speaks to people. I love his energy and attitude. I once attended his seminar in Los Angels. It was an all day conference, which ended up having everyone trying to walk on hot coals. I accomplished it. I really wasn’t susrprised because I knew I had the power to do it. I hav read several o Tony’s books. My personal challenge at this time, is that I have to have a double mastectomy and I just had a son 9 months… Read more »
Keep It!!!
I found it very motivating and uplifting. In today’s world we can all use some of that. I hope it doesn’t get canceled.
I happen to catch this show by accident because I skipped the gym…I sincerely hope they do not cancel it…I personally know several people that could have learned something from tonight’s episode where they featured a couple that had severe communication and financial problems. I wish I could put a few couples I know through the experience of living in a homeless shelter, and knowing what it is REALLY like to have nothing…I unfortunately do, as I was homeless once myself as a teenager…my parents lived in California and Florida, and I was evicted from my apartment in down town… Read more »
I don’t give a hoot about Tony Robbins, but I love his CDs and find them inspiring. I like NLP and Silva, on which his practice is based, and I like Robbins and Paul McKenna and am most happy when they are talking in my car, helping me with my own insight. So I approve of the way he sells his brand of NLP and think it’s great. But I don’t like his self-aggrandizement or his scripted (the same today as on his years’ old Get The Edge CD was playing today) bragging about counseling Bill Clinton and some guy… Read more »
definitely a keeper- I stay away from most of the prime time fare but when I saw this last week I knew I would be watching this show. we deserve a positive choice each week.
I loved the show and was so excited to have such a show on primetime TV. Keep it up, for sure!
The show was supposed to be more inspirational and about the people’s journey, with Tony as the “host” and faciliator of this journey. In the editing room (due to Tony and his wife’s exec. producer/800 pound gorilla status) the show became about HIM. Each episode shot for approx. 3 weeks and had 120 hours of footage of the main characters. Tony came in and shot for approx 8 hours for each ep. But you wouldn’t be able to tell that from the finished product which is 99% Tony scenes. Anything Tony-free has been turned into a montage or cut completely.… Read more »
Well said.
Amazing! Just heard of it – give it a chance – it’s show stopper. Told all my friends/family
I can’t believe there is even a suggestion to cancel this show. This show is refreshing and very inspirational. We need much more of this in our lives to counter all the negativity out there. People need hope and to know that it is possible to overcome difficulties in life. Most of what we see on TV is negative news, political gamesmanship, crime shows and vacuous sitcoms. Most of us are sick of the negativity. Please keep this show on the air!
Cancel it, and let Tony sell the remaining episodes
through his next late night infomercial promising perfection… This way he might be able to save his failing business. Yep, Mr. Turnaround can’t even turnaround his very own business. Insider knowledge – he was hoping this series would save it… Guess not… Maybe he’ll be returning to his 400 square foot apartment he talks about coming from .. LOL
Absolutely keep it. We need more positive experiences in our lives, more upbeat and encouraging and less gossip and whining. This show needs to be advertised more as I almost missed it, but I surely hope they see it as a keeper (as I do)
well said Gail , i soo agree………..
With all the junk out there, the world could use more shows like this. Keep it on! Promote it better, continue to improve it and run with it. It will catch on! Seinfeld wasn’t great initially either. It would be a sad commentary on our society to cancel this without a fair shake.
