Self-help author Tony Robbins has moved from infomercials to primetime. Are his series’ ratings positive enough for the TV show to stick around?
In Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, the host helps families overcome tough life challenges so that they can heal, “break through,” and reach their full potential. Last night’s installment centers around Frank and Kristen Alioto, a California couple. At their wedding reception, he broke his neck in a swimming accident and was left a paraplegic.
While Robbins was able to help them, the ratings for the premiere were anything but positive. The first episode attracted a meager 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 3.13 million viewers (per the overnights). Those numbers put the program in fourth place for the timeslot in both categories. What’s more, viewership fell between the first and second half hours, a sign that those viewers probably won’t be back next week.
NBC commissioned six episodes of this series. With numbers like these, they surely won’t be ordering any more and it’s looking unlikely that the network will even end up airing all that they already have.
What do you think? Is Breakthrough with Tony Robbins worth watching or would you just cancel it now? Cancel or keep it?

I vote bring the show back.
KEEP THIS SHOW ON THE AIR!!! With the advent of our horrible economy, “loser” mentality for many emotionally bankrupt civilians, the fattest country in the world, we need a wake-up call to raise our standards! We need positive TV programming, inspirational success stories and a great guy like Tony Robbins demonstrating how easy it is to execute our true potential. Honestly, switching the ‘Breakthrough’ program for a game show demonstrates how lazy and ignorant people’s interests is when it comes to designing an extraordinary quality of life for themselves and their family. Sadly, there a so few programs presently on… Read more »
If this show was cancelled it was the wrong move. Bring him back. He’s a great guy and he had a great show. It was so inspiring.
NBC…..BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!! GIVE IT A CHANCE!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE TELL ME THAT WE LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE WE WOULD RATHER SPEND OUR TIME LEARNING ABOUT HOW TO MAKE OUR LIVES BETTER, HEARING POSITIVE MESSAGES, LEARNING FROM OTHERS WHO HAVE OVERCOME OBSTACLES THAN WATCHING MINDLESS GAME SHOWS OR JERSEY SHORE. SERIOUSLY? IS THIS WHERE WE ARE AT? COME ON….WE HAVE TO DO BETTER. BE AN EXAMPLE…ADVERTISE IT IF YOU MUST…TAKE THE CREDIT THAT YOU WANT TO BE A NETWORK THAT IS PART OF THE SOLUTION INSTEAD OF PART OF THE PROBLEM…WHATEVER IT TAKES….MAKE IT ALL ABOUT YOU…BUT BRING IT BACK AND… Read more »
I cannot believe it. Finally a show worth watching that is positive, yet it gets cancelled after only two weeks!!!!????? Geez….give people a chance to find out about it!!! I told everyone I knew about it after the first episode, but it takes time to catch on. What a shame. NBC…..how sad.
There’s so much crime and war on TV that we needed Tony Robbins positive show!!!! Maybe the network gurus are learning from the wrong people, our politicians and ignoring what’s best for the people!!!!
This just goes to show the sad state of human nature our country has become. Not only in NBC cancelling the show, but in how many people would rather watch game show reruns where they already know the outcome, or disgusting “reality” shows like The Bachelor, instead of learning ways to enrich the quality of their lives.
I’m very angry at NBC for doing this….
I ENJOYED WATCHING THIS SHOW AND TO CANCEL IT AFTER 2 EPISODES IS RIDICULOUS! TO EVERYONE THAT USED TO WATCH BREAKTHROUGH, LET’S TURN OUR CHANNEL FROM NBC TO SOMETHING ELSE AT 8PM ON TUESDAYS!. WE’LL SEE THEIR 3 MILLION VIEWERS HURT THE NETWORK THAT TOOK AWAY A GREAT SHOW. I HOPE ANOTHER NETWORK PICKS IT UP. IT CAN CHANGE LIVES!
Great Show, I wish people got the message
I am most disappointed that the Tony Robbins show was taken off the air so quickly!!! It is such a wonderful positive and healing show, not only for the particpants, also for the viewers. It never secess to amazes me that shows like this is taken off the air, however, shoot up, hurting others, holding people at gun point and on and on stays on the air.
Utterly devastating that a brilliant show comes along and is canceled after only two episodes yet junk like Jersey Short and Do It In A Minute continues. BREAKTHROUGH was encouraging, informative and enlightening. Tony Robbins needs to be commended for it as are the participants. NBC should be taken to the slaughterhouse! Remember, Seinfeld ‘bombed’ during its first season but was given a chance and look what happened? Have we become a nation of morons?
I just wrote some friends to tell them about this show. I only saw last weeks program on my PC because I missed it last Tuesday….now I see it is cancelled.
I was proud of Tony Robbins to put this type of show together to help stimulate our economy with functional ideas to help people during hard times. Many Americans are discouraged & unemployed, or scared & unsure about their life situation….this could have helped so many more.
The networks really need to get back to BASICS…..Maybe HBO will pick it up!!!
Letter to NBC re: THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN NBC cancelling Tony Robbins BreakThrough I am not one to complain but in this case I am going to. What a disservice you have done to 2.8 million viewers+. There has never been a better show on tv than BreakThrough and you pulled it. This country NEEDS shows like this. I don’t know all the circumstances but from what I do know, Anthony Robbins put a lot into creating his best work yet in trying to help all of us through life’s challenges. Isn’t that VALUE more important than not meeting whatever your… Read more »
Please don’t cancel Breakthrough. Brinh it back! It was the only decent show on T.V. so disappointed its been cancelled.
K-E-E-P !!! My God, what’s wrong with NBC that they can’t even give Breakthrough a fair chance?! For once, television airs a show that’s meaningful with great power to transform the lives of people in crisis – only to cancel it after just two episodes, replacing it with a useless game show!!! Ratings should not be the sole criterion here. WHAT A TWISTED, SUPERFICIAL, CYNICAL WORLD WE LIVE IN. Blame NBC for all the problems that could have been fixed, all the mariages that could have been saved, all the suicides that could have been prevented – starting with my… Read more »
