It’s never a good sign when some of the staff of a struggling show take on other jobs. That’s just what’s happened with some of the personnel from FOX’s Human Target and NBC’s The Cape.
According to Deadline, Human Target’s executive producer, Brad Kern, has been hired as the executive producer and showrunner of ABC’s dramatic pilot called Poe. The series follows the adventures of Edgar Allen Poe, a macabre writer and “the world’s first detective,” as he uses unconventional methods to solve dark mysteries in Boston during the 1840s. Kern also previously ran Charmed for The WB.
Meanwhile, The Cape’s showrunner, John Wirth, has been tapped as executive producer and showrunner for The CW’s drama pilot called Cooper & Stone. This project follows two young female detectives from Chicago’s North Side. They’re best friends who discuss fashion and pop-culture while solving homicides. Wirth was previously a co-showrunner on FOX’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Neither Human Target nor The Cape have been officially cancelled. However, The Cape’s episode order was recently cut and the show’s ratings continue to fall so its widely considered to be doomed.
Human Target’s future isn’t as clear. The show had a disappointing season, averaging a 1.7 in the 18-49 demographic and 6.4 million viewers. That’s down 24% in the demo when compared to last season’s average. On the positive side, the series’ ratings picked up in the last few weeks and endured several schedule changes so there’s still a small chance that it could return for season three. We’ll know by May.
What do you think? If you had to choose between Human Target and The Cape, which would you chose?
The show Human Target is a good show and I love the Chance, Guerrero and Winston characters. Kick Ilsa Pucci character to the curb. This show can survive without her. Dump her and bring more adventurous and entertaining episodes!
HUMAN TARGET!! Fox has to keep this show! It is one of the few shows my whole family likes to watch together! It would be a shame to cancel a show that has good chemistry between the characters and great story lines. I am so tired of reality TV! Save this show!
Human Target – for sure! I finally deleted The Cape from the DVR timer list this evening when I realized I wasn’t really paying much attention while I was watching it anyway – too predictable, cliche, slow, yaddayaddayadda…boring. Plus I’m STILL ticked that the execs were morons enough to cancel the MUCH BETTER SHOW Heroes for it, when all Heroes actually needed was a little more time to recover from the writer’s strike that ultimately doomed it! ALAS!
Loved Human Target & so do our married kids. Don’t compete with Criminal Minds because they are both so good. Please keep it running. It is one of the few shows that really is good and great acting.
Human Target is a great show. We just can’t wait for it’s return SAVE the show
HUMAN TARGET is the show that i choose, my family and i loves it and we watch it together. come please give it a chance, no pun intended.
Human Target by far is the best show Fox has left. Please don’t cancel this one too!
Save Human Target!!!!
I’ve been a Human Target fan from the beginning, mainly due to Mark Valley who was great in Keen Eddie and Jackie Earle Haley’s “Guerrero,” but the addition of the two new female characters have cheapened the brand. I can, almost, accept Ilsa Pucci’s character but there is no place for Ames on the show. I was looking forward to “The Cape” and even liked the comic book feel of the show but wouldn’t be disappointed if it wasn’t around.
Human Target is just about the best show on TV. I compare it to 24 and if FOX cancels, it will be a huge mistake. Fox needs to spend more time promoting this show and a lot less time on the trash tv it airs (Family Guy, King of the Hill, etc). I rarely see ads for HT! DO NOT CANCEL!
I agree with Tess. One of the few shows my wife and I both love. Has very quickly established some great character personalities.
The Cape is the perfect marriage of action and comedy with plenty of suspense sprinkled in. I LOVE this show. It is so refreshing to see a show that you can’t figure out in the first 5 seconds. So of course it is going to be canceled because it is not a cookie-cutter show. Just when I thought that just maybe we as a television viewing audience had a break from the same old reality shows and run of the mill dramas. Go figure.
Human Target is my choice. I haven’t missed a single episode. I have never watched the Cape.
The only show I ever watch on Fox is Human Target. If another network picks it up than thats where I’ll be. I love the action, comic relief, and now drama with the new characters. I hope it finds a home someplace soon.
Human Target! It’s gotten so much better since last season. The expanded cast has certainly helped.
As for The Cape? I tried to watch it, but it just isn’t any good.
