Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Both my husband and I are very unhappy to Find that Cedar Cove has been cancelled. Even though the plots didn’t follow Debbie’s books exactly, we became very attached to the cast and the augmented story lines, and we feel cheated that after being faithful followers for three seasons we were left with all the loose ends!
I am VERY disappointed that Cedar Cove has been canceled. It was a great show with a fantastic cast. When the networks cancel like this, it makes the viewers hesitant to get invested in these kinds of shows. We are left hanging with questions about the Cedar Cove residents. It’s hard to find clean, well written shows, and now another is down the drain. Sorry Hallmark, I definitely don’t agree with your decision.
Very disappointed how it ended without major issues being resolved. We loved the show. Yes bring it back at some point.
I feel it love with a great show to the point my 10 year old daughter bought series 1 &. 2 as my Mother’s Day gift. She used her own money. I was heartbroken when I heard my fav show was cancelled and with no closure. Why? In this time if REALITY tv I live that I had “Cedar Cove and hallmark. I’m sadly disappointed. Carolyn
Very disappointing that “Cedar Cove” has been cancelled. One final season, wrapping up all loose ends, would leave a better impression of the quality of the series.
Very very disappointed that Cedar Cove was cancelled… at least give the fans a series finale to tie up loose ends and story lines.
you wonder why the ratings drop each season, you take a show completely off the air after season finale so people forget the show is on instead of running reruns of a show to keep people interested in the show. So bring back Cedar Cove and give a try and see what happens, at least do a 2 hour finale to end the show the right way instead of leaving people guessing what happened.
Cannot believe Cedar Cove was cancelled!! Loved this show. Please bring it back!! Totally disappointed in Hallmark for taking off this top notch show!
I loved the programme I want it back
I am disappointed beyond words. So much disgusting television, yet Cedar Cove was decent, appropriate, and clean television. I looked forward to the summers for the new season. Bad choice to not renew, Hallmark.
I am so disappointed and my mother will be also when I tell her! Loved the show…..please bring it back!!!
I really enjoyed watching Cedar Cove and can’t believe it’s been cancelled…so disappointed. Big mistake by Hallmark.
I am very disappointed that Cedar Cove has been canceled. It was great having a show with strong woman role models who weren’t afraid to speak their minds. Watching Cedar Cove was one of the things I was looking forward too this summer.
I am so unhappy to hear this. I loved Cedar Cove. I love the the characters, I loved the town. I got so hooked on this show. I was searching today to see when it would return and can’t believe this. Cedar Cove was my secret pleasure. I wish Hallmark would reconsider.
Every show I like gets cancelled. Can we at least get one more show that ties up all the loose ends? Very disappointed in Hallmark!!!
