Here we go again. Tonight, CBS airs the ninth season finale of CSI: NY. Will the long-running show be cancelled so that it ends up also being the series finale as well?
As with any show, the network has to look at the costs to produce CSI: NY versus the revenue it generates. CSI: NY has been on the air for nearly 200 episodes and so the costs have risen over the years. Unfortunately, the ratings haven’t gone up as well.
In season seven, CSI: NY averaged a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.03 million total viewers. Last season, the show averaged a 1.6 demo rating with 9.94 million. This year, it’s averaged a 1.4 rating with 9.68 million viewers.
Is it worthwhile for the network to keep producing more episodes or should they try something new? They haven’t had any luck launching new dramas on Friday nights — Made in Jersey and A Gifted Man, for example — so trying to replace CSI: NY might be a tricky proposition.
As Gary Sinise recently told Larry King regarding the ninth season renewal, “It was a 50-50 toss-up. We have a good solid show but I know from a business perspective what they’re thinking about, looking at. Has our show run its course? Can they find a new show that’s cheaper to make than ours that can do as well? They have to take a lot into account but we’re a solid show.”
If CSI: NY does return it will be without one castmember. Hill Harper, who’s played Sheldon Hawkes since the show began, is leaving. He’s becoming a series regular on USA’s Covert Affairs drama starting with season four.
What do you think? Has CSI: NY run its course? Should CBS cancel it and replace it with an existing drama or something new? Would you like to see it come back for a 10th year?
We would love to see CSI New York return for several more seasons. We love the Friday nights because of CSI NY and Blue Bloods. They are both wonderful dramas.
Please DO NOT cancel this show! It is one of the few shows my husband and I both enjoy watching. I already miss watching the show as there is nothing else worth watching on Friday nights. CSI:NY is an awesome show so please bring it back for another season.
I love watching csi ny. My Friday consist of csi ny and blue bloodshed. Please do not cancel csi ny. It has family values and friendships that last forever. Keep the show going.
Renew CSI: NY. What a great two-hour segment you have with CSI: NY and Blue Bloods. I know there are lots of cop shows on, but these two are well worth the watch. And we don’t ALL go out on Friday night!!!
Please do not cancel the CSI NY. I quit watching the regular CSI about two years ago because it was boring. Gary Sinise is GREAT. His team work together!
99% of the crap on tv now is ****, about the only good shows on tv now are csi based. Thease stupid thing they call reality show are about as real as a cartoon, what a joke come on ret[u]rds wake up, yes the uturds, or **** for brains, dahhhhhhh. Yes keep it.
i think they should keep it, seen as they have taken csi:miami from us … next is csi: new york and before we know it csi: crime scene investigation will go 🙁 🙁
Keep CSI New York. It is one of the better shows on television.
Please don’t cancel my favorite CSI show!! New York has the best cast and the best story. Lines. I have been a loyal fan since season one and I continue to watch my dvd collection over and over.
Please continue ..
CSI: NewYork is a great show. Our favorite show. Replace Golden Boy and Hawaii 5 o with CSI: NY. We do not get tired of a good show like CSI:NY. All the actors are great. Gary Sinese is a great patriot. Friday night is a bummer with CSI:NY. BRING IT BACK SOON. Reruns are better than Golden Boy and Hawaii 5 0.
Please renew it….Move it to save it, but save it.
Definitely renew the show. Great show . Please please
I’d like to see csi: ny stay on. There aren’t very many good shows on tv
Hope it stays for a tenth season. I am anxious to see what the producers can dish out for senarios.
first they shift csi miami to sunday and kick it to the curb every time a sports event goes overtime how can any program get ratings if it is scheduled but not showing and now you are concidering canceling csi ny if you do i will have to resort to watching the dvd on friday night like i do on sunday, monday, thursday nights now
