It’s no surprise that NBC’s Dateline TV show has not been cancelled and is back for its 26th season. This news magazine has been a staple of the Peacock Network’s news division programming since its 1992 debut. When will it be renewed for season 27? Will Lester Holt remain at the anchor desk? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A signature news series, Dateline NBC covers stories ranging from mysteries to documentaries and in-depth investigations. Holt is joined by NBC correspondents Andrea Canning, Hoda Kotb, Josh Mankiewicz, Keith Morrison, and Dennis Murphy.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
9/22 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.

For comparisons: The Friday editions of the 25th season of Dateline NBC averaged a 0.90 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.56 million viewers (live + same day ratings).

For comparisons: The Sunday editions of 24th season of Dateline NBC averaged a 0.95 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.13 million viewers (live + same day ratings).

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Dateline NBC TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a 27th season?
*5/13/18 update: NBC has renewed Deadline for a 27th season. Details here.
So, let me see if I got this right:
If I record a show on my DVR and then view it before 3AM, then it counts as a show viewed the same day it was aired???? Is that what I am to understand?
The majority of the time, I purposefully and literally allow SEVERAL episodes of a TV show to record on the DVR and binge-watch them SEVERAL weeks later. (I want my shows to receive good ratings but I do not always have time to watch them when they first air or hours later when they first air.)
Oh and yes, I like Dateline but again, it is a show that I often watch days later…not the same day it was aired.
