From the silver screen to the small screen. Deadline reports Netflix has ordered a series based on Justin Simien’s film Dear White People.
Released in 2014, the movie centered on the racial tensions at a mostly white Ivy League college. The film starred Tessa Thompson, Tyler James Williams, Kyle Gallner, and Teyonah Parris.
Netflix has already ordered 10 episodes of the comedy series, which Simien will write and direct. Production is expected to begin later this year, with the series premiering in 2017.
From Simien:
During the film’s release, I had the pleasure to speak with hundreds of students and faculty across a variety of college campuses dealing with these very issues in real time. I’m so grateful to have this platform – not only to give a voice to those too often unheard in our culture, but to also tell great stories from new points of views.”
