The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

NO! I was surprised that it’s being cancelled. Please bring it back! I look forward to seeing THE FAMILY every Sunday. Hope it comes back soon! I want to know what is going to happen with Adam and Ben. What happened to the reporter? Did Willa kill her? I have so many unanswered questions.
I loved this series, the grand finale answered a lot of questions which made me want to see what happens next even more. It is not fair to the viewers to end a series without a real ending, this ending totally left the faithful viewers hanging. There should always be an alternative ending just in case a show gets cancelled, so those if us who watched it have a real end. BRING IT BACK!!!
I would have loved it if it had been renewed. That show was very interesting and different from the others.
I am very upset by this news .. We really enjoyed this show .. Every Sunday we were always waiting for the next episode.. I think this show had wonderful actors and a great story line .. I think it should have been reconsidered..
I’m heart broken that the family was not renewed it’s one of the best shows on TV the cast is amazing and the show is brilliant! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
I LOVE THE FAMILY AND FEEL LIKE THERE IS SO MUCH MORE THAT COULD BE DONE! THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN IT ONE MORE SEASON! I agree with Brenda, there isn’t too much on TV anymore and ABC should have tried a different night. The finale was awesome and I feel invested in this show! I want to see ADAM!!!!
My, my mother, and daughters are disappointed to hear the Family was cancelled.This is one of the best series I have watched in a long time. I have been telling everyone about it. The finale left so much unanswered. There is definately enough for another season.
Very disappointed that The Family has been cancelled. Should have changed the day or time this was on. I believe that it would have had better ratings. Hopefully another network picks this up. They left to much unanswered. I would have loved to watch a second season!

I love The family! Finally a show not about famous reality families and not all bloodie and goury and killing spread. This show added mystery and suspense. Haven’t seen that in a show in a long time. Big mistake ABC
I’ve been watching The Family since it began and I thought it was a great show. I was very disappointed to hear it had been cancelled. Since it happened so suddenly, they weren’t able to properly end the series.
I wish it would have been renewed as well. I loved that show.

We finally get a show with some intelegence and they cancl it. There is so much crap on tv. This show was so well written and acted. But the Kardashians are still on. Thanks ABC.
