The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

Why can’t they just write 1 or two more episodes and turn in into a mini series and give it a decent ending. ABC makes me so mad, they do this every time.
I love this show. It was not enough closure this is the only thing I watch please don’t end it.
I am so, so mad at ABC canceling The Family. One of the truly riveting dramas TV has had in a long time. No resolution, no closure, nothing. ABC you stink! I hope Netflix or Hulu pick it up.

This show is unlike anything else on tv right now! I’m tired of all the singing shows, who has talent and crime solving tv it’s the same line up everrrrrrry night! It’s boring! The Family is such a great show! Suspenseful drama and cliffhangers leaving you wanting to find more information and really know this “Family”! I introduced my friends and got them hooked. The audience has a broad spectrum of fans 30’s all the way to my 88 year old grandma. Even have my husband an avid sports fan, watching drama tv!! Epic fail cancelling this show!!! This is the BEST show on TV currently! I’m obsessed with it. It constantly keeps me on the edge of my seat and craving more. I’m extremely upset that ABC is not renewing. I feel this is a HUGE MISTAKE and I hope another networktakes this opportunity. I’m so distraught about this.

Come on!!! Do not cancell this amazing show! It is about time networks realize viewers are increasingly watching shows through alternative means such as Hulu and Netex. A very small percentage of younge adults actually utilize trational cable providers, and of course this is going to a few your data. It would be similar to a social scientist conducting home phone interviews. It does not take a rocket scientist to consider this outdated!!!
Paaaleeeaaasssse do not cancel!! this show was a jaw dropper and kept me engaged the entire season. It was suspenseful, had unexpected twists that kept me wondering! I think the issue may have been that it aired on Sunday vs Thursday (which was weekday the first episode aired). Can ABC test it out on Thursday again? The ratings seemed higher the first episode.

This just blows my mind, The Family is a great show, I think if it would have been promoted more & not so close to it’s air date it would have gotten way more viewers. I watch a lot of shows and quite frankly I tired of this, it has gotten really bad the past few years, I watch really great shows & get excited for season 2 only to find out they are canceled. I don’t mean just on ABC, I mean all stations including cable. Please bring it back!!
