Now that NBC has cancelled The Playboy Club, Hank Azaria is understandably worried about the fate of his new show, Free Agents. The actor is trying to gather support to get the comedy more viewers.
Azaria has taken to Twitter, rallying much needed support for tonight’s episode. Soon after yesterday’s Playboy Club cancellation, he wrote, “Hey kids, please watch Free Agents this wednesday at 8:30. I fear it may be your last chance!!”
Earlier today, he followed that up with, “Okay it’s do or die time for my show Free Agents — we need eyeballs tonight at 8:30 on NBC!! Watch tonight or we may go away…” And then, “Watch Free Agents tonight!! Be part of TV history by saving this funny smart show! Then if you like it call Universal PR at 818 777 3030…” And most recently, “Tell NBC you think the show is worth it– 8:30 tonight after Up All Night…”
Unless, Free Agents gets a big infusion of viewers tonight, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if the peacock network decided to pull the plug.
Along with Up All Night, Free Agents was given a special post-America’s Got Talent debut. The series had a lackluster premiere though with a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.12 million viewers. The following week, in its usual timeslot, the demo fell 38% to a 1.3 rating. Last week’s fell another 23%, to a paltry 1.0 rating and just 3.07 million viewers.
The sitcom is averaging a 1.5 demo rating, just a little higher than now-cancelled Playboy Club. Even if tonight’s Free Agents installment rises back to a 1.3 rating, the show’s average will still drop.
Anything can certainly happen but, at this point, Azaria is correct. Free Agents needs some major support or it is doomed to be cancelled very soon.
UPDATE: The TV show has now been cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like Free Agents Is it worth saving or should it be cancelled?

I liked this show. I thought the writing was clever and sophisticated, and the characters were interesting, the casting was excellent. What gives? Why weren’t people watching it? Was the time slot opposite something really popular? Or was the writing over the heads of the masses?
I gave this show a chance but just didn’t find it funny. I decided to stop watching after the last episode. I like Hank Azaria and some of the other actors cast but this just wasn’t a good show.
This show is getting funnier and funnier. Need to support the show.
[…] Azaria’s cancellation suspicions were correct. Last night’s episode of Free Agents didn’t fare any better in the ratings […]
Good show with great chemistry between the actors – I hope it stays on the air.
I like Hank Azaria, but the premise of the show has zero appeal. Better luck next time.
I think Hank Azaria should take better care of the way his hair looks. All that black ink is embarrassing.
I agree with Tom’s comment. This show is much better than Up All Night and that one got renewed!! I don’t get it.
Love the show! It’s funny and sarcastic and so different than all the spoon fed crap.
Please keep it on the air why not move to a different time slot and give it some promotion!
I agree. NBC should try a different time slot. Let’s remember that NBC almost cancelled Seinfeld at the start.
BBC America will be running the original BBC episodes starting this week. Love Hank Azaria but wasn’t as good as the the original actor for this part. Plus the original still had Anthony Head as the boss!!!
I love it!! Who doesn’t adore Hank Azaria?! I hope it stays!!!
I like it, but its NBC and they like to cancel good shows… which is why I spend most of my time on CBS 😉
Yes, I like this show. Smart, funny, good chemistry between the characters. Give good TV a chance!
It’s OK. I think people should give it a shot.
I LIKE IT! Much better than Up all night and that was renewed???????????? Hope this show makes it!!!!
