Did Carlene finally take down Amanda? We’ll never know. ABC has cancelled GCB after one short season of 10 episodes. There won’t be a “second coming” or a second season for this show.
Based on the novel Good Christian Bitches, GCB follows a former high school mean girl (Leslie Bibb), now a single mom and widow, who returns home to Texas and tries to make amends with the women that she used to torment. The show’s ensemble cast also includes Lauran Irion, Colton Shires, Annie Potts, Kristin Chenoweth, David James Elliott, Jennifer Aspen, Brad Beyer, Miriam Shor, Mark Deklin, and Marisol Nichols.
This dramedy debuted to a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demograpic with 7.56 million viewers. That wasn’t a great showing but it was far better than what ABC had been getting with Pan Am earlier in the season.

Most shows see their ratings decline in week two but GCB’s actually grew, a sign that there was some positive word of mouth helping the series.
Over the course of the show’s short season, the numbers fluctuated a bit but it ended up averaging a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.87 million viewers. On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo performance of shows on the network, GCB had a “C-” grade.
It was firmly “on the bubble” between a cancellation and a renewal but ABC ultimately decided to cancel it. A slightly-better rated bubble show, Scandal was renewed. If that new Shonda Rhimes series had done a bit worse, GCB might have been renewed.
As it is, GCB has been cancelled. Some Christians and organizations objected to the show as they felt the original title was demeaning to Christians. Some called for boycotts but its difficult to know if that had any impact on the ratings or the network.
The last episode of GCB aired on May 6th. It wasn’t intended as a series finale so some ongoing storylines were left unresolved.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that GCB has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two? Do you think the show was demeaning to all Christians? Do you think the objections had an impact on ABC’s decision to cancel it?
I loved this show and am very upset that it has been cancelled! I even had my husband watching it and he even said it was funny. I hope another channel picks this show up.
This was a great show. I can’t believe they cancel it and renew The Bachelorette! WTH?
please, please, please bring back GCB. I have not laughed so hard at a t.v. show except
Laverne and Shirley. The last episode that they showed when they were in the desert, i
laughed so hard that i was crying!! Please re-think your decision ABC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kristen Chenowith is the best… how she ( they all ) remember all those crazy lines is
amazing!
I can’t believe that ABC is cancelling such a funny, original program! The writing and acting are superb; especially Christine Chinowth and Annie Potts. Let us not forget that the legendiary Star Trek program was almost canceeled after a season or two. Can’t ABC have any ability to discern a quality program when they see it?!! Maybe this was a political decision because of the “religion factor”.
I love this show! I can’t wait for Sunday to come around. I am a Christian and not offended at all. People have to be able to laugh at themselves and not take life so seriously. Please bring the show back for a second season.

Can’t believe they canceled another show before ending the outcome. TV entertainment has gotten pathetic with all the reality shows. There are no series that are entertaining and funny. This one started out great, got a little risque but was still quite hilarious and entertaining. The only other shows I look forwared to watching is Revenge (drama) All other networks you pay for keep showing the same movies, some of them need to be burned! Pretty soon everyone will have to go back to reading, computer games and board games for entertainment!
I think the show should remain on the air. It’s just as good or better than many others. True, it was a little quirky. However, it was genuinely funny and you could not help but like ALL of the characters.
BRING GCB BACK!!

I personally loved the show. I’ve attended and been memeber of a Christian church and alot of how they acted reminded me of my own congregation i Gould UT very entertaining and im very disappointed first with the finale of desperate housewives which sucked and now they cancel gcb. ABC network has crapped on my Sunday night shows.
AM GOING TO MISS GCB, was bored with DH, and it was fun, entertaining , was totally hooked, TAKE OUT A PROTEST AGAINST THESE NETWORK IDIOTS
I am a Christian and GCB is my favorite show on tv right now! I can’t wait for 10:00 every Sunday night to watch the show. I think you have to laugh at these people because they are portraying actual people that you know in your own church and community. If you look at twitter on Mondays, it’s full of quotes from the GCB’s show the previous night. They have some of the greatest lines, “Braise the Lord!” Everyone that reads this and loves the show to, please leave a comment and lets see if we show ABC what a… Read more »
GCB was the PERFECT show to follow after the cancellation of D.H.! I grew up southern baptist & I love it. It’s honest, witty and hilarious. Such a shame, they don’t even gives shows a chance anymore before they cancel them.
Please bring back GCB. I loved it. I’m a Christian and I thought the show was great. It did not bother me a bit. Please pretty please bring it back. Just give it one more chance.
Networks suck! You guys have no idea what makes a good show. GCB was a great show. Great cast and great writing. You guys are bunch of suits making bad decisions. Bring back the show. Stop putting great actors, writers, producers, etc out of work. You did not even give it a chance. Come on! And to all the sensitive Christina’s out there “give me a break! You know the show was speaking the truth.”.
I love GCB and I am sad to see it go 🙁
They don’t care about the 50 and over group. The TV networks suck!!! It is time that the TV viewers get some say in renewal of shows. No wonder many say that TV watching is a waste of time, or many call TV the BOOB TUBE!!! I guess I am the boob for giving my time to watch the network shows that the networks are so quick to cancel because the almighty dollar is more important than giving shows a little more time to reach their potential. I will be less supportive of new shows, because I don’t trust the… Read more »
