What’s going on with The Good Wife spin-off? Creators Robert and Michelle King recently discussed some new details about the CBS All-Access series with The Hollywood Reporter.
So far, it’s been revealed the untitled drama will feature Good Wife characters Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo).
When asked about the story of the spin-off, Robert King said “it’s different enough”:
It’s a different enough story so it doesn’t seem like Good Wife the sequel. Christine Baranski’s character is a very unique person on her own right, someone who broke the glass ceiling and isn’t sure whether she should just rest on her laurels or go for the next achievement.”
Later, he added both him and Michelle will not be writing the first episode. Instead, showrunner Phil Robinson will:
We’re kind of guiding it and getting it going, and hopefully infusing the spirit of The Good Wife into it.
I don’t feel like we’ve completely handed it off. Phil Robinson is such a talent and is bringing so many good ideas to it that no, it actually feels sort of like a gift.”
The Kings are currently running the new CBS dramedy BrainDead, which premieres June 13th on CBS.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Good Wife? Will you watch the spin-off series?
Shame. I won’t pay to watch it.
I would watch on regular network, but would not pay to watch on another platform. I would love to see Diane, Lucca and Cary plus some of the others continue with great writing and storylines.
How the heck can they afford to have Christine Baranski and Julianna Marguiles in this show unless Julianna only does a few episodes? That would have been $600,000 per episode right there for The Good Wife in salary for the 2 of them.
Julianna Marguiles isn’t in the new show – it’s focusing on Lucca & Diane
I’d watch this – I love Diane & Lucca. I’d love to see more characters come on board.
