NEW YORK, NY, October 10, 2016 – Fans of AMC’s critically acclaimed drama “Halt and Catch Fire” are “safe.” The network announced today that the series had been renewed for a fourth and final season of 10 episodes. Creators and showrunners Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers will write the series focused on the dawn of the computer industry in the 1980s in Texas and California to conclusion. The series’ third season finales tomorrow night at 9 p.m. with two back-to-back episodes.
“We are so proud of ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ – a true passion project – and thank the critics and fans who have embraced this unique program,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “Congratulations and thanks to creators and showrunners Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers and to Halt’s enormously talented writing team, producers, cast and crew. It is our great pleasure to renew this project for a fourth and final season, so we can all tune in to see if Cameron, Donna and the rest of the gang turn Swap Meet into eBay, Amazon or Facebook.”
“First off, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to have a creative partner in AMC that has nurtured us from new writers into showrunners over these past three seasons. It has been our great privilege to watch the world of ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ expand and mature in that time, powered by our incredible cast, our exceptional crew, our absurdly talented writers, and our producing partners at Gran Via, all of whom have come to feel like our family,” Cantwell and Rogers said. “In this fourth and final season, we are excited to end the show on its own terms and to give our story, these characters, and our fans the conclusion they so richly deserve.”
From AMC Studios, “Halt and Catch Fire” captures the rise of the PC era in the early 1980s, focused on characters attempting to innovate against the changing backdrop of technology, initially in the Silicon Prairie of Texas and ultimately in California’s Silicon Valley. In addition to Cantwell and Rogers, the series is executive produced by Gran Via Productions’ Mark Johnson (“Breaking Bad,” “Rectify,” Diner, Rain Man) and Melissa Bernstein (“Breaking Bad,” “Rectify”) and stars Lee Pace as Joe MacMillan, Scoot McNairy as Gordon Clark, Kerry Bishé as Donna Clarke, Mackenzie Davis as Cameron Howe and Toby Huss as John Bosworth.
“Halt and Catch Fire” will be available in most AMC Global territories. The series is distributed internationally by Entertainment One Television (eOne) through an exclusive multi-year output agreement.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Halt and Catch Fire? Do you think it ending at the right time, or would you like to see it get a fifth season on AMC?
I hate your ending of season 4. Joe and Camarron have been in love this whole time and you split them apart? What’s that about? You know people really do find their true love in the real world. I did so why can’t they? From what I gather Camorran can’t have children so why would Joe hold that against the women he loves? Even if I got that wrong, A man that loves a woman that much would not choose children over her. Children come and they are a joy. But they leave you as you see with Donna. And… Read more »
This is BS that a great show like this gets cancelled and a crappy show like Fear the walking dead gets more viewers. This is going to be a show that is looked back on greatly and will get a lot of fans after it’s too late. It is a really great show I think people just don’t know about it.
This is one of the very few programs I have really enjoyed watching. When I’m at work many of my coworkers talk about the episode.
What a shame to cancel this program.
This is one of the smartest shows ever done. The nuances depicted between Donna and Cam are so real! And there is true depth in the male friendships that are not found in any other show! Us nerds are given a true feast each episode! A beautiful smash up of technology, history and human drama!!! To send H&CF away so soon is a true loss!
Please add season 5. It’s a great show with wonderful characters you really care about.
Normally don’t get into weekly series but kind of liked this one. It’s a bit too soap opera-ish. Can relate to starting with a Commodore 64. Show needs to move into the future a little faster. I’m surprised its not more popular.
Stay with it. A truly well done series and very deserving of a serire 5
Please give us at least another season after the fourth. I beg of you.
Great show. Recoreded it so I could watch 2 to 3 shows at a time. It was very special, like having dessert after a long day of doing tax returns. Super gald that there is at least onee more season. Great writers & cast..
Hello, so i discovered halt and catch fire by the way of Lee Pace. Since this day i just can’t watch this series really… i really love the characters (joe and cam together of course) and the story herself, i personally need more seasons, like 4 or 5 ! Just wait one year before the next season it’s really upseting lol so please you must keep going on
I am pleased there will be a fourth season to wrap things up. I didn’t want the story and characters left hanging in limbo with a conclusion left to the imagination. I very much like this show, it’s characters, the story line, and the backdrop of the computer and tech industry. I think there is plenty of room for a season 5 and I would like to see one. I understand that it is a ratings driven industry and if it doesn’t get the ratings in season 4 it will end. I am grateful for a season 4 either way.… Read more »
The first season sucked. I gave it 2 stars out of 5. The 2nd season was much improved. I’d give it 4 stars out of 5. The third season was an epic win and this time it got 5/5 and I bought series 3. I’m ready to buy a season pass at Amazon for season 4. It took these people 1 poor season, a much improved 2nd season and a smash on season 3. Someone is finally learning we enjoy the roller coaster ride that Breaking Bad gave us consistently. Breaking Bad was 5 out of 5 from the first… Read more »
With only 1/60 the live audience of the Walking Dead, I find it astonishing that this got picked up for a fourth season. AMC should be applauded for this, rewarding an outstanding production with the ending it deserves. Thanks to AMC and to the talented cast and crew for giving us this rare and precious gift. Geeks everywhere rejoice!
Being born in 1980 and also a computer technology professional I’ve loved this drama from a nostalgia point of view wondering if Gordon Clark is Bill Gates or if Joe McMillion is actually Steve Jobs. I’ve loved the trip down memory lane with the Comodore64 and the NES camio. I’m sad that season 4 is the final season. Hoping the writers decide to opensource the final plot line so we can continue through the .dot com bubble and meet up with current day technology.
Would love a season 4 and 5!
