After loads of promotion, TV Land has now debuted their original sitcom, Hot in Cleveland. Starring a quartet of sitcom veterans, is the TV show worth watching?
Hot in Cleveland follows three women from Los Angeles who’ve supposedly passed their prime. They’re on their way to Paris to check another item off their “bucket list” when their plane has to land in Cleveland. They quickly learn to love the Midwestern city and take up residence, living in a house that’s got a sassy caretaker. The series stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, and Betty White. Future guests include Wayne Knight, Shirley Knight, Huey Lewis, Hal Linden, Susan Lucci, Juliet Mills, Carl Reiner, and Amy Yasbeck.
Executive produced by Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), Todd Milliner, and Suzanne Martin, Hot in Cleveland debuted on June 16th. The first episode attracted 4.75 million viewers with a 1.9 rating in the 25-54 demographic.
While those numbers aren’t great for a regular network, they make Hot in Cleveland the most-watched and highest-rated broadcast in TV Land’s history.
The sitcom got mixed reviews so the big question is, “How many viewers will keep tuning in week after week?” The ratings for new shows typically drop off 10-20% in the second week but even if that many viewers don’t return, TV Land will still likely be very happy with the show’s ratings. There are nine episodes left in season one. Even if the ratings take a big nosedive, they’ll all surely air.
What do you think? Does Hot in Cleveland live up to your expectations? Will you keep watching or should the series be cancelled already?

C’MON – at least give a great new ensemble comedy a REAL/LEGITIMATE CHANCE (not 1, 2 or 3 episodes and THEN the ‘sink or swim’ question posed WAY too early for a true demographic read on the viewership) to succeed … Hot In Cleveland is HYSTERICALLY FUNNY, and eminently more watchable/desirable than much of the horse stable floor fodder that seems to be ‘untouchable’, cancellation-wise! Why even say that viewership dictates a show’s success or failure when that doesn’t even count, according to the rumors being bandied about and the actual news stories being printed in whatever format, virtual or… Read more »
I LOVE THE SHOW,!!
It makes me laugh, finally a good show that a lot of us can relate to. And the writers seem to really be into it, Keep it up people!
Again I think this show will be a real winner, if given the chance,
One of, if not the best sitcom in years. Congratulations !
Is this seriously already a question cancel or keep already! give the show a chance for God sake. It is already great though! Imagine a sitcom thats actually funny again and doesnt take itself too serious this is like a throwback to me and I hope it lasts! Not everyone wants to watch “Jersey Shores” or Real Housewives or whatever other crap thats on I think Lucille Ball would like this show actually!
Love it!! Please don’t take it off the air. This should have made it on one of the major networks, but hopefull TV Land will keep it alive!!
Wow! Loved it. This is the type of sitcom that the whole family can enjoy. Good writing, and the women are all so real!
I hope it stay on the air for a long time. Just the laughter we all need!
My whole family really looked forward to this show and we haven’t been disappointed with the first two! We look to enjoying many more episodes. Why would anyone consider cancelling it? We need shows like this. PLEASE KEEP IT ON!!!!!
It’s a new version of the Golden Girls….give it a chance, give it some good scripts, already has 4 top actresses!!!
FANTASTIC SHOW!!
I wasn’t sure how it would work, but the sassy writing and the genius of those four women make this a no-brainer. Also smart to shoot with a live studio audience. These women come from the era of live taping, and it adds zip to the performances (yes I know they add canned laughter). The writing is brilliant, much better than I expected, and episode two shows the cast working together even better than the pilot.
KEEP IT! IT’S A GEM!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE this show too!!!! Please keep it!
Terrific show! Should be on one of the major networks!!
The powers that be should let it continue. These are great cast members with proven track records.
For pete’s sake, can’t the TVLand execs actually GIVE ‘Hot In Cleveland’ a true chance to develop a fan base before even considering taking those wonderfully witty women in their true ensemble cast off the air? Good GOD … why can’t the networks realize that all good things take a little time to take off?
I looooovvvveeee this show. It’s been too long since we’ve been able to view TRUE talent and we have that quality finally with ALL four ladies. PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW GOING. It gives a message of overcoming obstacles and who doesn’t need to have an outlet to learn to laugh at and over come our own problems and situations.
HELLO, that’s part of the problem with TV these days: ONE episode airs, and already it’s “cancel or keep”? Jeez, give it a chance! “Cheers” and “Seinfeld” would NEVER have lasted if they had debuted today. They took time to develop a following. Imagine that.
Please keep this show , I love it…
