There are big changes coming to Kevin Can Wait in season two. Actress Erinn Hayes has been dropped by the CBS TV show and Leah Remini has been promoted to series regular for season two.
Hayes played Donna Gable, the wife of Kevin James’ character Kevin Gable, on the family comedy. Meanwhile, Remini, who co-starred with James on the long-running CBS sitcom The King of Queens, appeared as a guest star on the season one finale of Kevin Can Wait.
According to TVLine, Kevin Can Wait is going in a new creative direction for season two. While it’s unclear what that means, what we do know is that fans will be seeing a lot more of Remini’s character, Vanessa Cellucci, in season two.
But is this a good idea? Remini’s guest appearance did garner some buzz but Kevin Can Wait saw some big losses in the ratings throughout season one. It earned a 1.61 rating in the 18-49 demo and 7.63 million viewers, making it CBS‘ top-rated new series in the demo for the 2016-2017 season. However, the sitcom started the season with a 2.58 rating and 11.08 million viewers but hit a low of a 1.05 rating with 5.90 in April. The show being reworked is likely a reaction to those declines.
Should the show be rocking the boat this early? What do you think? Are the cast changes a good idea?
If they want to refresh the show, they should get rid of the stale, unfunny, buffoonish husband.
I have been a big fan of Kevin can wait. The dynamics of the loving wife and Kevin are what makes this show work. Maybe the rating went up with Remini but you can only take her in small doses and it was curiosity, we dont need a remake of King of Queens. REMINI is too loud and screechy. Please do no destroy a great show, leave it as is, if it aint broke dont fix it. Believe me if Remini replaces Erin you will have lost a viewer in me and others who i know agree. Please do not… Read more »
It’s a good move. No chemistry between them. The funniest episodes was the season finals!!! Can’t wait for the new season now
I won’t be watching. If I wanted to see them together, I’d watch reruns of King of Queens. I think it was a slap in the face and I do not support the change at all.
No she got fired beginning of may was season finale of Kevin can Wait they left as is because not serious script suppose make people laugh and original show King of Queen is going replace Erin
Yes this was a good change, I didn’t enjoy the show until I saw Remini, the original wife just didn’t fit, not enough spark, now I will be watching next season.

I think taking Erinn off the show would be weird. How is she going. I mean what are they gonna do, kill her off. It is supposed to be comedy. Remind is much better as a bit actress in this particular show.
I’m done with this show, love Kevin James, but getting rid of the wife on the show for a Botox faced has been isn’t for me! Bye……
I agee. I’m not planning to watch it next season now either. I liked Erin and don’t care for Remini or her awful voice. 2 episodes was enough for us. When are they going to get rid of all the kids? That has to be the next step.
I stopped watching King of Queens because it was stale, and really truly the same joke every episode….Kevin Can Wait was successful at first because the different cast and story line was refreshing, but unfortunately it ended up being the same stale joke….how can this man eat and get out of work while his “out of his league” wife tries to make him better…..scrap it and come up with an original idea for once.
The show is NOT funny, I don’t care WHO you put on it. I’ve never been a big Kevin James fan but if a show is funny I’ll watch it. Kevin Can Wait doesn’t work because……it isn’t funny PERIOD! The only reason King Of Queens ended was because James wanted to go be a big movie star. He had been in a few comedy movies that made decent money so he figured it made sense but as Kevin James carried comedy movies came & went the one trick pony/character Kevin James was being exposed as a funny SECONDARY character in… Read more »
I just can’t believe they are doing everything they can think of to save this unfunny show–and canceling the truly funny Two Broke Girls…sad. Bye CBS, hello reruns.
Kevin Can’t Wait I’m tried watching but just can’t really get into it. I like the son in law to be and the other kids. Maybe but them into to the show more. And Two Broke Girls are my best show and why would anyone want to cancel them even though I’ve seen everyone of them every time I see them again they are still funny and make my day. Please don’t cancel them. Joyce E.
I’m with you… really loved the wife & the future son in law… but the rest? Not so much.
Leave Hayes in the show as she was great in her part. Replacing her with Leah is like reviving King of Queens and it won’t work. Keep Hayes and let Leah be a guest star.
Sorry. I would not be watching anymore. I love Erinn and I will not be watching. Big mistake
That’s a sidenote do you think network executives read sites like this? Well maybe their husband and wives do. But I hardly believe they put any substance into the comments and reactions to people posting comments
web boards like this.
Even if they read all of this, they really DON’T CARE. I won’t be watching season 2 now that Erin is gone. Having Leah on there for a couple of shows was a cute idea but not as a replacement! Bye Kevin and good luck!
People think writing makes difference. But it does not.this is nearing wand. Next year end
What? I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.
Maybe reading might help
I don’t understand either what you’re trying to say
No no no!!!!!! Erinn can’t be gone!
She is great! The show WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT be the same!!
