This evening, ABC airs the last episode of Last Resort — titled “Controlled Flight Into Terrain.” The network cancelled the Thursday night military drama after a short season of 13 episodes.
With low ratings, the writing was on the wall almost from the start. It was clear that Last Resort wouldn’t be getting a second season. Thankfully, ABC execs made their decision before the cast and crew had wrapped up filming, giving them time to change the 13th script and give fans some closure.

Why can’t we read the letter from the mom’s sister, we are all grow ups and can take the truth.
“We wanted to make it an exciting, wonderful wrap-up of the season, at least. It wasn’t like we started again on page one, partially because we already had a climactic episode in the bag. But we did make alterations trying to give everyone who loves the show closure and something great to finish with.”
What a fantastic show!!! Action and plots are nonstop and keep you wanting for more. My family found the show on Crackle and what a FIND!!! Wish there was more episodes..maybe Fox if not ABC.
A shame that a promising entrant in the under-served “submarine based para-melodramas” genre was sent off with such a hurried and ridiculous finale.

Although I’m from the UK I found this show amazing! I can’t believe that it’s been axed, hopefully it gets renewed on a different channel.
This series continued to evolve with every episode. The production values were top notch for television shows these days along with veteran directors at the helm. Did anyone happen to notice Martin Campbell’s name credited as director of the pilot? You might recall him directing a couple “small” films named “Goldeneye” and “Casino Royale”. Although I found the time slot a bit conservative for a show as ambitious as Last Resort it played well in my opinion with a great ensemble cast!
