Detective Dwight Hendricks (Jason Lee) has sung his last Elvis song and solved his last case. TNT has cancelled Memphis Beat after two season on the air.
A TNT spokesperson said, “TNT has decided not to pick up a third season of Memphis Beat… The network thanks everyone involved in the production of Memphis Beat for their work on the series, including the great cast and crew. TNT wishes everyone the best.” The last episode aired on August 16th.
Beat was the last of the TNT dramas to have its fate decided. The cable channel renewed Leverage, Rizzoli & Isles, Falling Skies, and Franklin & Bash but cancelled Beat, HawthoRNe, and Men of a Certain Age. Men had the worst ratings of the three axed series while HawthoRNe and Beat were next in line.
Lee will next be seen on NBC’s Up All Night and Beat creators/spouses Liz Garcia and Josh Harto recently sold a new drama to the peacock network called The Meadows.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Memphis Beat has been cancelled? What would you have liked to see happen in season three?

This show along with Detroit 187 were my favorites, period ! funny, refreshing, well written and just plain good entertainment. I am trully disappointed in TNT and ABC for cancelling these shows. have you seen the drivel on ABC lately ?
I can’t imagine that a poll showed no interest in this show. It is one of the best on TV and I really looked forward to watching it. I am so, so sorry that some short-sighted person could not see the potential of a longer series.
I love Jason Lee as Dwight Hendricks – the show had a very unique law enforcement style along with a great personal touch with the musid of Memphis and Jason Lee’s great voice. I think it is a cult classic – definitely would like to see more.
I cannot believe that TNT cancelled this show!!!!! It was charming, the music was great, the characters were well written and acted. It was one of those “comfort” shows that I always looked forward to seeing. I fully expected to see several December episodes then another break until summer. I did not find this notice of cancellation until after the mid-season Christmas stories had been on and off. It just never occured to me that it would be gone so soon and so quietly. And I bet they won’t even make season 2 available on DVD. They did the same… Read more »
there are not enough good shows with original and heartfelt stuations, this was a great realistic show. loved the cast, loved the honest feeling of the stories, not just all bad guys or good guys . real feelings came across. sorry this wasn’t advertised more I’m sure it was what we used to call a sleeper, and given a regular time spot would have helped.should have given it one more season.
I think it’s said that you don’t really get the true public option on a show and it gets cancelled. We loved the show. And found its humor and cast enlighten. It sad that shows that don’t have a lot of violence and sex get cancelled.. Sorry to see it go. I think the tv companies need to be careful that people dont start watching more cable and less tv station. I for one will have seriously look at these station when they prefer to play reality tv instead of good clean shows.
Would have liked to see more character developement.
TNT cancels all the good shows and leaves these stupid shows on. I wish everyone would stop wathing them until they makde beeter choices about their programs. All the shows that are great they cancel for nonsense. It is the grownups that buy the televisions not the kids. I’ll read a book.
I would also like to know who was polled to determine the decision to cancel. It “should” be the public who decides. Everyone I know watched Memphis Beat and couldn’t wait for it to start back up again. It always amazes me that there are programs on that no one seems to have ever heard of, yet they get renewed. But a show like Memphis Beat that everyone watched, gets the axe! Where’s the justice in all that? TNT should be ashamed!
Disappointed. Really enjoyed the show, the interplay between the actors and the music, but not the music in Season 2. I think the creators or the network were tryin to save money on the music in Season 2 and it fell on it’s face. The music in Season One was part of the storyline and good fun. Too bad it’s gone.
My husband and myself watched this show every week.. We loved it, and we thought Jason Lee was great in it. I am so sorry to see it go. Why would they keep shows like Rizzoli and Isles and get rid of a good drama/comedy like Memphis Beat
Don’t hate on Rizzoli and Isles because Memphis Beat didn’t get the ratings. It was a good show but don’t put down another show that’s just as good or better to build up this one.
enjoyed the show, liked the characters and enjoyed the music.
Who did they pole to show no interest…I loved this show and Jason Lee was great in it. The writing was a little silly the last few shows…but not his acting in it. We have a pretty large group of people in Virginia that watch this and it will truly be missed, especially since ABC has gon to the dogs with programing. Sorry to see it go!
Disappointed to see that the show has ended it was one of my favorite.
Really.. you cancelled Memphis Beat! It was one of the more original programs in awhile. Loved the idea of it being in Memphis and seeing another part of the country and its uniqueness. The cast was outstanding. The writing was good with some twist and turns. Please bring it back. Jason Lee’s talents are wasted on Up All Night. As individuals the actors were outstanding but were even greater as a team. Boy, you guys messed up. Maybe it’s the advertising/promo that needed work and not the program???????
